X-Men (2000)
X-Men Lite
I realized about 10 minutes into this movie that I, at the tender age of 27, was NOT the target audience for this movie. This movie is for people who have played the X-men video game, heard about X-men through conversation, or was under 15. If this describes you then I suggest this movie. It is cute, endearing and sometimes eventful. For people who have read the comics and have seen the evolution of the X-men I doubt you will enjoy this. Where is the nearly psychotic Wolverine? In this movie we get a strangely compassionate, watered down, milk toast version. Like everyone else in this movie. The movie wanted to sell merchandising, appeal to fast food restaurants and teenagers. It never wanted to explore the darker side of the comic. The part that makes it distinctively X-men. I want to see an R-rated X-men movie. Unfortunately, the popularity of this cheesy version will prevent that from ever happening.
The Patriot (2000)
Braveheart comes to America, and it is TERRIBLE!!!!
This movie tried to be Braveheart so badly, but it failed in every possible way. The similarities are :
1) Both (Wallace and this guy) had members of their family killed. 2) Both were forced from their homes 3) Both were reluctant about war. 4) BOTH had the big bad British force them into fighting 5) they both lost their wives 6) Both got it on with some other woman. (at least tried) 7) Both men single handedly can beat 20 of the British 8) Both were portrayed to be the catylist to victory.
And it doesn't end there. I am just tired of thinking about this trerrble movie. Don't let the visual effects fool you. This movie is mind numbingly bad. Go watch Braveheart. You will enjoy it more.
Down to You (2000)
Maybe the worst execution of a decent script ever!!
This movie is not totally unwatchable, but that is the kindest thing I can say about it. I know exactly what happened. Some tourtured soul wrote a moving screenplay about first loves. THEN some idiot movie executive decided to water down the script, shoot the whole thing as a Clueless clone. It is very uneven. The script is so much darker than the direction. The movie can't tell if it should be light hearted or deep and profound. SO they try both. Instead of making a decision about the direction of the film they muddled the two ideas and the director couldn't pull it off. Julia Styles is passable as Imagin. Passable. Mostly because she is very easy on the eyes. Freddy Prinze Jr. IS THE WORST ACTOR I HAVE EVER SEEN!! He has three looks and he uses them at the wrong times. The supporting cast was alright, but none of their characters were flushed out at all. So in the end you really don't care what happens to them in the least. Overall, it was not terrible, but it is annoying to watch a movie that could have been very good.
The Hotel New Hampshire (1984)
Perhaps the worst movie ever!!!!!!
Rob Lowe trying to be deep, incest, rape and more depraved madness and terrible writing. The acting would be laughable if the movie wasn't nearly vomit inducing. I would watch any other movie besides this one. Compared to this flix Duckman, North, Blankman and Moll Flanders are all a 10. 1 out of 10
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998)
Movie is not as good as the book
If the book was never written this movie would be amazing, but there is a book. The Hunter S. Thompson novel of the same name is far more complicated and interesting. I highly suggest turning off your t.v's and read the book instead.
The Young Ones (1982)
The best British Sitcom EVER!!!!
This series is a must see. It is a hilarious send up of 80's personalities. If you ever get the chance to see this wonderful show.... DO IT!!!!!
Making the Grade (1984)
The best of the 80's comedy
I am a huge 80's buff. I love the classic comedies that have come from that era. This is by far and away the best of the bunch. It is quite possibly the best comedy ever. It plays on the stereotypes of Preppies and intercity kids. It is great. Palmer Woodrow, played wonderfully by Dana Olsen, is a scene stealer. This is also one of Judd Nelson's first films. It is Andrew Dice Clay's first film apperance. It is a classic piece of Americana. Buy it, rent it, steal it if you have to. It is that good.
The Sopranos (1999)
Best Drama Series Ever....
I think this is the greatest show ever put on television, with maybe the exception of NYPD Blue. The show would be up for some major awards this year, if cable was a honored as network television. The actor that plays Tony Soprano should win the emmy this year for Best actor in a Drama Series. Watch this show!!!!
Citizen X (1995)
Better than many theatrical releases!!!!
This movie was funny, sad, wonderful, brilliant, moving, compelling, and anything else you can think of that is in a good movie. I highly suggest you watch this film if given the opportunity. It is a made for HBO project, so if you are a subscriber you will probably run into it.
Roger & Me (1989)
Best Documentary
I wanted to say that this is the best documentary ever made. It is funny, moving, compelling and disturbing. I highly recommend this film to anyone who is interested in great film making. Watch and learn.
