Pearl Harbor (2001)
2/10
Really bad dialog, badly focused script
6 December 2001
I did not see Pearl Harbor in the theater, just on home video. I was expecting the worst and that is exactly what I got. The hokey dialog is the worst that I have ever seen in a movie. They should have spent the first 90 minutes on the Japanese preparation of the attack instead of what they spent it on. I personally will now skip any movie that Randall Wallace has writing credits for in the future.

I enjoyed the music soundtrack of the movie. That is the only good thing that I could say about this movie.

Hated it, propaganda
1 October 2001
I didn't see this in the theater when it was released, but did catch on cable the other night. Any time there is a movie related to politics made by Hollywood, I get to hear patriotic music playing in the background while the movie bashes people who may not believe in abortion, choose to own guns, and worst of all might go to a church.

This movie had plenty of patriotic music playing and plenty of bashing going on. I did not respect any of the acting in this movie because the messages were so offensive to me. It was a sickening for me to watch.

Cecil B. DeMented is my hero

What a wonderful movie. John Waters has echoed exactly what I feel about Hollywood and the movies that they produce. I smiled through the whole movie. I rarely get so much enjoyment from any movie.

Every new John Waters movie seems to leap past the last one. I love his work.

A joy to watch
27 July 2001
I really enjoyed this movie when I saw it recently on the Sundance Channel. I really dislike about 95% of the films provided by Hollywood and I wish we could have more films like this.

I have always liked Depardieu films and this is just one more example of why I like him as an actor. It is just a character study of how several people try to get through life. In fact, it is probably how most of us get through life and you rarely see it portrayed in films from Hollywood.

I know that most people that I know would not like a film like this, but I am sure thankful that I get to see them.

Torture to watch, not much to like
27 July 2001
I finally watched this on pay per view after not seeing it in the theaters. I did not see it in the theaters, because I was afraid it was going to be one long lecture. Guess what, it was just one long lecture about drugs. I just don't think that Hollywood has any business commenting on the war on drugs. I guess this is supposed to be one of the good films that Hollywood puts out so that they can get away with all of the violent unrealistic films that they constantly release. The whole thing seemed like a very trivialized summary of the issues to me.

I have mostly liked the work of Steven Soderbergh in the past, but this movie was not very good to me. The blue and yellow color shifts were just plain annoying and I have no idea what they were supposed to symbolize. None of the acting stood out for me.

This was just one overhyped bad movie. It gets 0 stars out of 10 from me.

Kubrick would have made a better movie
18 July 2001
I thought this movie was a mess. I don't really know in what way Kubrick might have been involved with this movie. It looked to me several times as if there was someone else (Spielberg) trying to imitate Kubrick's style. It was a poor imitation in my opinion. I have tried to like Spielberg's work as of late, but I don't really think he has made a good film since "The Color Purple". Stanley Kubrick was a master, but Steven Spielberg is not.

The only thing worse than the actual movie itself, was the music soundtrack. I think Danny Elfman would have been a better composer for music for a film like this.
