A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Most disappointing film of the year
It is hard to believe that Steven Spielberg was involved with this movie. It is almost like a soap opera; there 3 or places in the film, where it could have been ended without affecting the story line, such as it was. There are no great special effects. You have to keep reminding yourself that the main character is a robot so that the movie will seem better than it is; otherwise, one will not be able to resist the temptation to walk out.
Miami Blues (1990)
Meandering movie with pointless violence
There is nothing here except a couple of well known stars making fools of themselves. There is a lot of violence, but it is senseless violence. Alec Baldwin acts more like psychopath than a smart criminal, and the role does not suit him.
Nick of Time (1995)
Flimsy plot spoils good acting, and good technical production
If you accept the incredible hypothesis that a whole battalion of people surrounding the governor of California need to force an amateur to kill her, the movie is enjoyable, because the actors do a good job. However, if you start wondering why these people (who include her husband) can't do the job themselves, it is difficult to enjoy the movie.
Bedazzled (2000)
disappointing
One would expect that a person would not venture to re-make a popular movie unless he was confident of improving on it. Sadly one would be mistaken in the case of the new Bedazzled. The movie is not a patch on the old one. Even taken by itself, it is not worth the time spending in watching it. What passes for humor is very poor.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
Incredibly bad
One does not expect much from the genre of horror movies any more, since they exhausted all their plots/themes long ago. But even by their own abysmally low standards, this movie sticks out like a sore thumb. It does not even have a decent cast or good technical merits (camera work, sound etc) to compensate. It is amazing that they even made a sequel to this movie.
Midnight Run (1988)
Perhaps the most entertaining movie ever made
This is my favorite movie of all time. The comedy just keeps coming. While the profanity may be a little disturbing, I think it is essential for the movie. It is remarkable that such a movie was made without a great plot and without a major female character or a romantic angle. I wish they would make more movies like this, even though I doubt that even Martin Brest can duplicate this effort.
Thin Ice (1981)
A tasteless and poorly directed and acted movie.
This movie is about a teacher who has an affair with one of her students. The story, screenplay, direction, acting are all below par. A very dull movie
