Taste the Blood of Dracula (1970)
Passable
This is a passable attempt at a Dracula movie. Geoffrey Keen looks too bored to get into his role and as for the revival of Dracula, the ritual changes every time & does Dracula now suffer from hallucanations? Why on earth does he behave like he does at the end of the film?
I'm afraid that Dracula AD 1974 seems to treat it more realisticly!
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
Good for Trekkers
This latest entry into the film take a while to get started and once again, the plot seems to revolve around Captain Picard.
The film is very enjoyable but there seems to be a recurring theme about the Enterprise fighting someone bent on destroying either Earth or some other planet, perhaps any future film could make use of the imaginative writers featured during the original 7 year run!.
As for any characters dying, since this is Star Trek, I'm sure that they could be "beamed" back in some format?
Unbreakable (2000)
A Let-Down
The Sixth Sense it isn't! Although I have a feeling that sixth sense will turn out to be a one hit wonder, this film had a lot going for it and in terms of acting, style, direction and cast, it is a good film. It nicely builds up the tension, drawing the audience in and then gives up at the end! It's almost like M Night Shyamalan didn't know how to end it!.
Why could we not have been treated to more scenes of Dunn exploring the positive impact of his "gift", instead we get Jackson's character saying "I'm the bad guy, deal with it".
Come on M Night Shyamalan, we know you can do better!
High Fidelity (2000)
It's a film
Well, I have to hold up my hand and say that it wasn't very well done. Some of the characters were fleshed out while others were not.
Considering John Cusack had a hand in this, I am very disappointed in it.
Better luck next time
The World Is Not Enough (1999)
Excellent Movie!!
This is one of the best Bond movies for a long time and it is good to see that M/Q/R and the MI5 gang are more than just a cameo at the beginning!. Brosnen shows just how much an actor can bring to the role, which is something previous Bonds somehow failed to do.
And if it was supposed to be Q's last film, his "exit" scene was brilliant!.
All good fun!
The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1961)
Nice Film
This is one of those British Sci-Fi's that are always tucked away in the TV schedules and are normally fasanating to watch, especially from a pre-man on the moon 1969 view.
All the characters are well played and the film keeps it's speed very well.
If it's on TV when you're flicking through, give it a chance. It's not over long and it's not too short.!!
Ghostbusters (1984)
Top Class Film
This film is unique, a film that doesn't take itself seriously and takes the plot with a sense of fun. All the cast are great, with the exception of Rick Moranis who makes me cringe every time he is on screen.
Although the effects are ropey, they carry the film to some extent!. Shame about the sequel
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Superb film
Watching this film again after several years, I was struck by how effective the film is at getting the plot across for 1951. All the actors play their parts to great extent and Bob Wise direction is clear and direct.
Altogether a great movie, with a haunting soundtrack!!!
Cruel Intentions (1999)
Slick, Sexy, Superb
This film totally blows your mind. All the cast are spot on and the script is slick, witty, VERY sexy and has a terrific ending. Sarah M Gellar is brilliant and provides a refreshing contrast to Buffy!!. This is a must for video/DVD even if just for the ending!
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
Well written film
This is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. The dialogue is superbly written and Cusack appears completly at ease with his character. The slick humour and the drama sequences are expertly handled. All in all, a great film. Hope they write a sequel!
In the Line of Fire (1993)
Exciting and tense thriller
This is simply one of the best. All the main leads are on form and Russo is simply beautiful as Lily. A powerfully directed film with some nailbiting moments. A great film!
Blink (1993)
Good Thriller
This film is among some of the best thrillers written with a good cast and a decent reason to doubt the main witness. Recommended!
Airport '77 (1977)
Above average disaster movie
I have always had a soft spot for this movie as it was released in the year I was born. Although the plot is good, some of the script seems to be ad-libbed. The film falls apart when the divers set up the rescue package, this intercut with the inside of the plane seems to slow down the film.
But compared with the abysmal Airport 79/80-Concorde, this film is really very good!.
Ultraviolet (1998)
Fantastic series
This is British Sci-Fi at it's best. Moody, thrilling and keeping you with IT all the way. Turning old myths on their heads and making you look afresh at the world you live in.
Ultraviolet is just simply class. Superbly shot, and given that gritty edge that is much needed today. I for one will not hesitate in giving it 10/10.
Roll on series 2!
