This movie is very old, but it still has some charm. The acting is very fine and it still catches your heart. But the directing is very poor. Perhaps it was the style in the mid-sixties, but today the movie seems to be directed from many directory who could not agree about hoy to show something.

This movie is a huge waste of time and of talent. It takes three hours and it lets you behind like you were eating a Big Mac. Somehow it satisfies you, but it is filled with useless calories. Here the useless calories are useless dialogs, which one and only reason is to raise the tension. But you know most of the time in advance what will happen. And, sorry, the physical basics are totally nonsense! Even if you are not interested in physics you must admit, that the rescue through sleeping in a time gate is a very poor idea. 5/10

The United States now have the laws Jason Robards was killed for in this movie. Thanks to the fear for al quaeda and for mass destruction weapons they now have introduced two types of law: one for the normal citizen and one for terrorists. And the laws for terrorists are even harder than the laws they wanted to install in this movie. But who is a terrorist and who is normal? So this movie is getting old very fast.

Btw, the acting was not very well although there were excellent actors such as Jon Voight and Gene Hackman in this movie. The acting never got me really and it was not very convincing. Perhaps it was too much action and not enough story.

This movie tells the story from two brothers, which are born in a poor village in the southern part of Italy. 1964 the father decided to go to Germany to make more money. First, his wife, don't want to go, but as she with her family arrive in Duisburg, Germany, she decided to open a pizzeria, the first of it's kind in Duisburg at this time. Meanwhile the two brothers, who have in Italy already a strong competition, get to know the new hometown. The elder, played by Moritz Bleibtreu, is a little bit of a criminal while the other discovered his interest in making movies. This movie has the same problem as many German movies. It has some good ideas, and sometimes you can really laugh, but the ideas are not sufficient enough to carry the movie over the time. 6/10

Hi, although I don't believe in such thing as wonders I enjoyed the movie very much, except for the ending. The casting was very good, every actor was well chosen, especially greetings to Harry Dean Stanton, welcome back to mainstream ;-). The movie was a little simple-hearted but very thrilling. I felt it so unfair that a wife from the prison-system was rescued by a man who was sentenced to death. And the escape from the jail was a leak in consistency because all the other guards would had give notice when a prisoner would leave the jail. And I can not understand why the director choose to show such a long ending. In my opinion it would be better to let the movie end with the killing of John Coffee. The tension was gone and I felt that I wanted to leave the cinema (in real I saw it on TV). So I choose to give it only 7 from 10.

This movie was interesting because of the story from Hubert Selby. And for the first hour it was thrilling to view. But then, some mistakes get clearer. It was wrong to cast Jennifer Connelly for this movie. She will always be an upper class girl, also when she is on H. It was annoying to saw her trying to look like a junkie. I think she was casted because she was an uprising star in hollywood. And every director wanted her to play in their movies. Or it was the guilt of her agent. Jared Leto fits much better for his role. He was so nervous right from the beginning, that it felt right to see his demolition. The camera also get boring after a hour. They repeated some scenes to often. The message was already made clear, but they repeated again and again the scene how to cook up heroin. And then, the cuts, were sometimes to fast. I know that this was chic at this time. But not everything which is chic fits to a story. And not every actor has to be casted because he or she will be a star. 5/10

This is a brilliant movie with a very good plot, excellent actors and a director of photography, which will get an oscar soon, for this movie or another. The movie tells us a story from a miserable man who find his awakening in the northern wilderness at the see. There in the former hometown of his family he find his real love and gets his first job which give him respect. I learned from this movie that you sometimes have to change your location to build up a better you. This movie is a very good fusion of european filmmaking and the american filmindustry. It got the best of both worlds. 8/10

I just seen a sequel from the series "family law" and I was very astonished to see Tony Danza ("Who's the boss?") doing all the job while Kathleen Quinlan was much too quite. What has happened? Were the quotes falling so that the producers decided they need a new star? I would rather watch 100 sequels with K. Quinlan as the star than one show where Tony Danza has the leading role.

I have to write a comment because I have to answer the published commentator. This movie is against all wars, not especially against the war in vietnam. The special mentality from english upperclass is shown as a cartoon. The group from Goodsloe is sent to north africa to build up a cricket field behind the enemy front. This is so nasty!

Richard Lester is an underestimated director. Without him such a success like monty python would had not been possible.

But nonetheless this movie is now no revolution anymore. You are used to such movie cuts after all these music videos.

BTW, I'm very lucky, that we lost the war. The second, I mean.

I had seen thís movie twice and it has a lot of velocity. The gags are a little bit unbelievable, but you laugh nonetheless. Madeleine Stowe is great but she is now a much better actress, because you believe her more if she plays the intelligent woman like in "Twelve Monkeys". Richard Dreyfuss is clever as ever and the rest of the crew: damned in forgotten history..., hey no, wait: there is Forrest Whitaker in a small supporting role. But for his small,little role this is no reason to watch this movie. Do you know what makes me angry about this film: the goddamn 80s music and music mixing. It sounds terrific. It sounds cheap. But then again, this is a nice movie...

I would gave him a 10 if one scene would be cut out: it is the scene where you can switch into a killer and where you can watch yourself killing a woman. Through this scene the movie qualifies itself as a hollywood snuff video, done with good and expansive equipment. 6/10

The book is one of those I had read most. I read it approximately 6 times. The movie was great, but it was too great for me. It was the only way to do it, but I was only sometimes surprised. Everything was so large. It just failed to raise my interest. And you saw what was real and what was not. Perhaps it was too early to do it. But on the other hand then someone else had done it. And perhaps much worse.

This movie is like a theater play. It has only a few places where all the action is happening. The outdoor scenes are not really necessary. I think it came out of a Broadway play. But this movie is cute, especially to see all the moral issues which we had to overcome. And the acting of all the three leading actors is fine.

Enjoy a little bit of time travelling. Hey, and there is still the friendly side of NYC to watch.

This movie is bad, real bad. In the middle of the movie I thought by myself: my god, girl, shoot down the bad guy and everything is fine! But she won`t hit him until the movie has reached nearly two hours duration. Oh no, don't waste your time!

The problem with such a movie is that the gag from the end of the film is very good but that's all. You cannot make a religion out of this movie, or do you?

So if don't believe in a life after death (like me) you see the movie twice and then you want to forget it, because the story is too unbelievable. And the story has holes. And when you see it for the second time you recognize that the director has take a deeper look to Hitchcock and Kubrick. But OK, it works! So the director has learned his lessons well.

I've seen both films on video and this one is the better one. The story is much more realistic while Armageddon is a comic. This one has the possibility to go under your skin. But A. is more fun to watch. The actors in A. are more funny because of Buscemi and Co.. But if we really are getting to thread from an asteroid the politicians will more behave like Morgan Freeman instead of the other president..

Yes, I know, its a little provocative, but the movie has a consistent design throughout the story. And the actors are great. The Atrides are shown as the family of the csar, and the design from the interior is great. Look at the ship-style design from the interior of the House of Atrides. It has no great special effects like star wars, but it has a message. No fear.

Like others I saw a great similarity between Event Horizon and Sphere. I think the first one is the better one, because of his darkness and his greater thrill. Sphere lacks of special effects , especially when the giant squid arrives, and of great acting except for Jackson and Liev Schreiber, whom I found convincing. Sharon Stone and Dustin Hoffmann were a little disappointing. The acting duel between sam neill and lawrence fishburne is much more interesting. I think sphere is mainstream and the event horizon is more underground, much darker...

Complex plot about a secret agent who arrives from the outer space outlands in the capital of a large union of nations which resides in space. The people in this capital are acting very crazy. They are token under tranquillizers the whole time and even don't know anymore what love is. The system from the state is under the spell from a large, intelligent computer, alpha 60, which cares about nearly everything. Developed from a scientist (von Braun aka Nosferatu, both are hints to germans, the first to werner von braun, the developer from the apollo moon project, the second from the first dracula movie ever, the german soundless movie: NOSFERATU 1922)he tries to install a system of pure logic and rationalism. But what about emotions? And freedom? No one cares anymore... And then the secret agent comes into town and have to fight against this system. Goddard shows nearly no special effects and has made his movie in Paris in the sixties, which is a good trick (except that it is cheap!), because it says that this system is not far away from our reality.
