The Muse (1999)
Brooks At His Best!
The funniest man and one of the only true autuers left in the United States does it again. His attack on Hollywood is ruthless. Do not listen to any of the negative reviews. They are all missing the point. (For example, The Fish story is not supposed to be funny. That is the whole point of the movie!!)Great story, each scene is hilarious, and Sharon Stone is casted perfectly as the very annoying Muse. Do not miss this one!
Basements (1987)
Tom Conti is Brilliant! Classic Pinter
Altman really hit on a good thing with his short films written by Harold Pinter. The film effectively contrasts Conti's brilliant acting skills with the non-existent skills of John Travolta. Travolta's awful british accent is worth the price of admission alone! (I am sure this is all intentional - a real Altman touch) Travolta plays a hitman! And we all thought the Tarantino was the original one with that idea. A genius story that is excellently paced. For a great time, view this wonderful artistic piece.
Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis (1997)
Rik Mayall AND Jane Horrocks!!
I do not understand why this move was slammed critically. Great premise and great cast. Very funny movie. A must for all anglophiles. Highly recommended.
Hurlyburly (1998)
Sean Penn!
See this movie for no other reason to see acting in its purest form. Everyone puts on a show and most notably Sean Penn gives the performance of his alreadly illustrious career. The diatribe between Penn and Kevin Spacey is completely engaging and excellently paced. Finally, a movie that concentrates on dialogue and character development instead of special effects. The movie is long lasting over two hours but you end up wishing it would go on another two hours. Go see this film!
Twister (1989)
No exaggeration - One Of The Best Movies Of All-time
Everything about this movie is perfect. The set design, the acting, the camera movement, the mood, the colors - everything. You'll be hard pressed to find a better movie. Easily, the best film generated in the last 35 years. Keep an eye on Michael Almereydas!!
