Les Misérables (1998)
From the eyes of an innocent.
I've never read the book. I've never seen any other versions. I never knew a thing about, not even how to properly pronounce the title, until I watched this movie. And even then I learnt the pronunciation elsewhere.
So I watched this movie expecting nothing but to finally learn what the often mentioned Les Miserables was all about. I have to say I love this movie, oh how I love this movie. The first time I watched it I was on the verge of tears almost from the start. Halfway through I had to stop the video to have a good cry :P for being reminded what a lowly creature I was and how shamefully I've lead my short life. Whoops, am I getting too personal? Sorry.
I work at a video store and I've lost count of how many times people have looked at the cover of Les Mis, made a face and turned away. How many times I've sadly shaken my head at that... Oh, how much they miss.
With no knowledge of the original story I watched this movie and thought it was absolutely wonderful, beautiful. And after reading the other comments made here I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the book. It sounds like it's so much better than the movie and my mind reels from the idea of that.
Good film. Damn, I would have hated it if it didn't have a happy ending :)
Heartbreak High (1994)
I'm past the teenage years but, man, I love this show.
My opinion: Callan Mulvey is the hottest guy I've EVER SEEN. Damn beautiful. I read an article on him once where he said he thinks girls like his character because they like someone who's wild and daring. I say girls like his character because he can be a self-centered smartass, tough, a rebel, but he does care for his friends and can be quite a sweetheart. Boy, we just melt for that. We all want to tame the beast. Plus he's damn funny. Oh, and he's the reason why I got my eyebrow ring :)
But even if it wasn't for this beautiful creature I'd still watch the show for all the other characters and the issues they deal with. It's eye-opening and open-minded. 20 minutes a day well spent and, well..it brings out the adolescent in me :)
Waterworld (1995)
not ashamed to say i loved it
I began to think that there was something wrong with me when there didn't seem to be one other person who liked this movie. In one chat room everyone felt sorry for me for liking it!!! Well, I've seen it three times now (and I don't even like Kevin Costner all that much) and I still can't say I find anything terribly wrong with it. In my opinion it's a great fantasy adventure. Who cares if it's based on realism or not, it's a movie, not a documentary! Solely for enjoyment.
Perhaps all the bad reviews came from people with preconceived notions of the film whereas I, who live in the middle of nowhere, had not received any of the hype usually accompanying big budget films and brought only my inner child and imagination to the cinema.
I suggest if your preference in movies does not include fantastical adventures then steer clear of them to avoid giving bad reviews and ruining it for other people.
So I Married an Axe Murderer (1993)
Love that Mike Myers!
Not everyone can "get" Mike Myers jokes. It can be hard to enjoy a funny movie if you're the only one in the room laughing. But Mike Myers does it for me. Guess you've gotta be on the right wavelength.
EXCELLENT movie. Its funny, romantic and I felt so sorry for poor Heed!
And Yay! to Anthony LaPaglia, fellow Aussie, I hope I spelt your name right.ciao.
