Lazy writing
14 March 2023
I suppose this movie would do if you find yourself stuck on a plane or if you can't sleep. However, the film relies on shooting and explosions to make up for it's ridiculous and implausible plot. If you don't mind suspending all disbelief and enjoy silly gun battles where only the bad guys get shot, this is probably the movie for you. There are a few humorous moments and an occasional decent line, but they are too few and far between to give up two hours of your time. I was really looking forward to seeing this Guy Ritchie flick, but it had very little of the cleverness and wit that made his past features enjoyable. For those who like formulaic action movies with little character development, I recommend Operation Fortune.

Just kept getting worse

Trite, cliche, predictitable, take your pick. This movie is a waste of time and an exercise in bad writing. Judy, what we're you thinking?

A waste of 2 hours

This movie has a big cast, yet we weren't expecting much more than a silly, funny romcom. Unfortunately, this film takes predictability to levels higher than the tallest Ausfrian peaks. The "humor" is obvious, the characters are shallow (even by romcom standards), and the plot offers nothing of interest unless you are a fan of My Little Pony. I sure this is a fine movie to keep the little ones entertained on a rainy afternoon, but everyone else should ski around this rock of a flick.

Really?

Warning: Spoilers
I'll start by saying I clearly had a completely different experience than most of the people who reviewed this movies. I felt like I spent 2+ hours watching home movies at a stranger's house. The movie went from being a silly romp with a unoffensive cast and cute puppy to an advertisement for Planned Parenthood complete with sleep-deprived induced arguments, an unplanned pregnancy, and little rug-rats (along with the dog) reeking havoc. I found the main characters' performances perfectly acceptable in the first half hour before they attempted to take on the deeper material that would have required Owen Wilson to change his facial expression once or twice. Jennifer Aniston's role required her to come across as a miserable housewife which she accomplished quite nicely. I found myself checking my watch more than once hoping for the predictable ending to hurry up and arrive. Marley pooping in the ocean is a perfect metaphor for this flick.

A few hilarious scenes

If you love musicals, you will probably like this movie. Otherwise, avoid the hype, and wait for it on video or better yet rent the original. Nathan Lane did a fine job in the lead role, but many of the support characters stole the show even with some obvious blue humor. Will Ferrel once again showed his talent as the writer. Gary Beach and Roger Bart were hysterical. Uma Thurman did a good job of playing the sexy love interest. I had two major complaints with the film. First, I found it painful to watch Matthew Broderick doing his bad Jerry Lewis impersonation. He played it like he was still on stage and it did not work. Second, it dragged in too many places. I laughed out loud at certain parts but rolled my eyes and checked my watch much of the time.
