The Sixth Sense (1999)
The Best Movie of 1999! Give This One Best Picture!!
This has got to be the best picture of 1999. Everyone does an excellent job in this movie from Bruce Willis, Toni Colette and the little boy who can see ghosts. This is one of those movies that doesn't rely on blood and crap to give you chills! oh man, it was great! GO SEE IT! Don't let anyone tell you the ending. Even though I figured it out do not let anyone tell you how it ends! They should make more movies like this. Highly recommended!!
Beautiful Thing (1996)
Excellent Beautiful movie
I have seen this movie and each time I like it even better. Its about two teen guys who live next door to each other. One's mom is a barmaid and the other gets beaten on daily by his dad and brother. The two fall for each other with some touching and funny moments. All the actors and actresses do an excellent job!!!!! Why did this movie not win any awards? It deserves many!! The music goes right along with the movie and makes it even better. The four leads, Jamie, Ste, Jamie's mom and their next door Mama Cass lover lydia are all excellent!!!!!!! Highly recommended!!!!!!!!!
It's My Party (1996)
Excellent and touching
Excellent and touching drama about a man who has AIDS and finds out he has not that much longer to live, decided to throw a farewell party for himself and invites his family and friends. And also his ex. The results are dramatic, heartbreaking and even a little humour is in here too. The whole cast does an excellent job but a few stand out... Eric Roberts as Nick who is dying of AIDS, Lee Grant as his mother, Maragret Cho as a best friend, Olivia Newton John as a best friend, and Gregory Harrison as Nick's ex. This is an excellent film that I have watched more then once. It will make you laugh and cry. Oh man, will it make you cry!! The score is excellent also as is the direction. Recommended.
Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker (1981)
Susan Tyrell always plays a good crazy!!
Not bad suspense movie about a crazy aunt played by Tyrell who will stop at nothing to protect her teenage nephew from the people out to get him. Look for an early bill paxton(who is not that great an actor anyway) in an early role as a school bully. Really not a horror movie until the last half when Tyrell goes nuts. But not bad actually!
Nightmares (1983)
Good Horror Anthology
A good horror movie anthology which has four stories about people caught in some of their worst nightmares. The first is about a woman who just has to have a pack of cigarettes late at night and gets chased by a serial killer. The second is about a teen who desperately wants to beat a video game and when he does finds out this video game is alot more then it seems. The third is about a priest being chased by a truck from hell(literally). And the fourth is a family being terrorized by a giant rat. They are all pretty good but is the R rating really necessary?????? I mean with maybe one scene taken out this could have easily been a made for tv movie. Still worth seeing though.
The American Scream (1988)
So unbelievably stupid!!!!!!
The 2 worst movie I have ever seen in my life are Troll 2 and this. Everything from the plot, the acting, direction etc is terrible. This is advertised as a horror movie but it is anything but. More like a stupid comedy. you will want to kick yourself for sitting all the way through it. It's about a family so sweet they make you sick and their kids and their kids friends going to a small town for a winter vacation. The people in the town don't like kids too well and apparently only the kids can see this. Do not waste your time on this movie. I can't believe i wasted my time typing out this review for it! Avoid it at all costs!!!!!!
Our Sons (1991)
SO SO TV MOVIE
Our Sons is an ok tv movie but could've been better. I did get a good laugh out of Julie Andrews calling Ann Margret " A stupid bitch". Ann Margret and Julie Andrews are good but Hugh Grant is annoying as usual.
Coffy (1973)
Pam is great!
Hilarious action movie has Pam Grier trying to fiind her sister's killer. The best parts are the big catfight between Pam and the hookers. And when Pam is trying to get info out of a woman and the woman's lover comes home. Hilarious!
Jawbreaker (1999)
Not as good as Heathers but a nice try
Actually this is not that bad a movie. The ending could have been a little better, but it's still not bad. Rebecca gayhart does a good job as does Rose McGowan from Scream who shows she can play a mean witch. Carol Kane and Pam Grier are good in their short parts. And PJ Soles and William KAtt are in it for less then a minute! What happened with that? Anyways it's no Heathers, but not a bad try.
The Rage: Carrie 2 (1999)
Good sequel 23 years later!
First of all the original Carrie is a masterpiece and can never be topped but the sequel made 23 years later is surprisingly not bad and a pretty good follow up as well. Emily Berg plays Rachel a lonely high school student who discovers she has telekenesis, where she can move objects with her mind. It turns out her mother who is in an institution had an affair With Carrie White's father, so she is Carrie's little sister. One night she is invited to a party with the popular people and when a cruel joke is played upon her she takes out her rage in revenge. From flying CD's to exploding glasses, she lets nothing stand in her way. I dont want to give away how it ends any more. The direction cinematography and score were all very well done. Emily Berg was excellant as Rachel and the jocks and snob girls were good in their parts as well. Amy Irving does a good job as well returning as a high school counselor. The only problem I had with this movie is what happens to Amy Irving's character. Why did nothing happen to Rachel's crazy mother instead? Oh well. A worthy sequel to a masterpiece. I am also surprised it did not do as good as it should have. Ths movie is far better then all the teenybopper horror crap they have been churning out like the 2 awful i know what you did, urban legend, the faculty etc. Recommended!
In Dreams (1999)
One of Neil Jordan's best!
A very imaginative clever and suspenseful film about a woman(Annette bening) who can see a killer(robert Downey Jr) in her dreams. She knows she is the only one who can stop him even if no-one believes her. Everyone does an excellent job in this movie especially Annette Bening. Good score by Elliot Goldenthal as well. Good direction also. My favorite Neil Jordan movie is The Company of Wolves. In Dreams would be my second favorite. It has a sad but happy ending and leaves room for a sequel. Recommended!
La setta (1991)
Weird but good
Unusual film has a woman being pursued by witches and she has a hole in her basement that leads to another world where the witches are at. Kind of reminded me of Alice in Wonderland in a few parts. And a few parts are also downright creepy. Thsi is one you may have to watch twice but it is very good.
Look Who's Talking Too (1990)
Hilarious
i don't care what anyone says this movie is hilarious. Roseanne as the voice of the baby was perfect. she even looked like her! John Travolta and Kirstie Alley work well in all three of the look who's talking movies. When it came on T.V. it had at least 20 minutes of edited stuff which i don't know why they took out. The one problem i had was with not having Mikey talk. The kid is old enough to talk unlike the baby, so why didn't they just have him talk? Otherwise that it was hilarious!
The Women of Brewster Place (1989)
Excellent movie. Jackee shines over Oprah!
Excellent drama about a group of women living in an apartment building. This explores all their lives and shows how everyone is struggling through something. jackee comes out the best! This movie is dramatic, hilarious and heartbreaking. Such lines as "You shoulda thoughta that before you started breeding em like roaches!" and Jackee's one liners during the tenants meeting had me laughing out loud. Highly recommended!!!!!!
April Fool's Day (1986)
Great mystery movie
Give me a break! this movie had more twists turns and better acting then scream, The dreadful last summers, and all the other teenybopper horror films they are churning out. The horror movies of the 70's and 80's were the best. And this which has one of those double twist endings is great. Deborah Foreman invites some rich friends to spend the weekend with her. One by one they begin dying. Or do they? Good acting by all. Recommended. The horror teeny bopper films should look at the 70's and 80's horror movies and take a few notes and quit churning out tiresome stupid crap like urban legend and the faculty etc etc. Rent April Fool's Day! You'll be guessing the whole way. But you'll never guess the double ending!
The Waterboy (1998)
Irritating beyond belief!
Why audiences found this irritating movie to be hilarious is beyond me. First of all Adam Sandeler's voice gets on your nerves in the first five minutes and he keeps on talking like that through the rest of the movie! And what is an excellent actress like kathy bates doing in this? i will admit my only few laughs came from her and not at all from Sandler. He's not as funny as he thinks he is. I did like the wedding singer but i was very disappointed in this idiotic movie.
Mama's Family (1983)
One of the funniest sitcoms ever
This is one of the classics that I love watching to this day. Vicki Lawrence and the whole cast made this show great. The Best episodes are the ones with Bubba, Iola and the cast. Just some of Mama's looks and expressions will make me laugh out loud. Naomi is also great. Wish the show would have stayed on the air longer but thank god for a show that will make you laugh out loud. They don't make them like this anymore and they should!
Deadly Blessing (1981)
Good suspenseful Craven film
A woman's husband is mysteriously murdered and when two friends come to visit other people begin dying as well. The killer is not who you think and actually this movie is not bad. Why all the harsh criticism? Some parts like the snake in the bathtub and the fire car chase scene had me on the edge of my seat. Good acting direction and score. Only problem is a tacky ending. They should've stopped after the catfights and the "happy" ending. Altogether, not bad at all. Worth seeing if you have the time
Deep Impact (1998)
Moving powerful movie
Deep Impact was one of my favorite movies of 1998. It was very realistic unlike the lame very lame armageddon. It was very moving also especially the end with the baby. I give it 10 out of 10. god. it was great!
You Don't Have to Die (1988)
Excellent tearjerker
Excellent film that brought tears to my eyes more then once. It is a documentary of a boy who bravely fought cancer and won. Recommended. See it. You won't forget it.
La chiesa (1989)
Not Bad
A creepy film about a group of people that are trapped inside a church and one by one killed until only one lucky one remains. It seems that witches were killed and buried under where the church stands and their spirits are the ones keeping everyone trapped there. OK film, the best thing going for it is the music by goblin and philip glass. The direction is very good and the acting is ok.
Jack the Bear (1993)
excellant heartwarming film
This excellant movie is about a widowed father trying his best to raise his two sons while coping with alcoholism, a nagging father in law and a racist next door neighbor. Danny Devito, Gary Senise, Julia louis Dreyfuss and Reese Witherspoon all do a good job as well as Devito's two sons. Good direction, and score also. It's dramatic, funny and sad at times. Recommended
Tonari no Totoro (1988)
One of the best animated movies
This is one of the best animated movies I've seen. It has drama, humour, sadness and comedy all rolled into a movie that parents will love as well as children. It is about two young sisters and their father who are waiting for their sick mother to get out of the hospital. The girls see Totoro's which are playful spirits of the forest who lead them on many adventures. Highly recommended. Wish more of the director's movie were available on video.
Micki + Maude (1984)
2 wives= double the trouble
Dudley Moore is happily married to Anne Reinking who right now doesn't want kids. Dudley meets a sweet woman Amy Irving and before you know it she's pregnant. Dudley decides to plan to leave Anne but guess what she's pregnant too. So Dudley becomes a bigamist. Funny, especially the hospital scene. The ending is kind of lame but this is still a great movie.
Poltergeist II: The Other Side (1986)
Not bad sequel
Most sequels stink but there are a few that are worth watching, this is one of them. The family that was besieged by ghosts in the first poltergeist now lives with Diane's mother where a evil ghost preacher and his followers now haunt them. Good acting, direction and score. Of course, it's not as good as the original but still worth watching.
