Simon Birch (1998)
10/10
Outstanding!
26 June 2001
I saw Simon Birch as a sneak preview in Austria. Unfortunately it never made it to the regular theatre in my home town, so I am really glad that it "happened" to me!

The main theme is Simons unshakable faith in God having a plan for him, and that he, despite his disabilities, will do something very important. It is also a film about true friendship. And it is a movie that teaches You, that with faith, God can turn Your weaknesses into strengths.

Thus, the message of this movie alone makes it worth to watch. But it is the performances that make it outstanding. Ashley Judd is even more charming than usually; the two main actors, Ian Michael Smith and Joseph Mazzello, were simply breathtaking. There was a moment when it was totally quiet in the theatre - no one even dared to breath.

If You want to watch a movie that is suited for the entire family, if You want to watch a movie that has a message, if You want to watch a movie that is really funny, if You want to watch a movie that shows great acting, main and supporting actors, if You want to watch a movie that makes You believe in the good inside man, then this movie is for You.

There should be more movies like this!

Go there in the morning!
8 February 2001
Unfortunately we did not know beforehand that our tickets would allow us admission the whole day, so we came in the afternoon. So, if You are a fan, go in the morning and stay all day, it is worth it!

The gallery with the timeline and the original artifacts from the series' and movies alone can keep You busy for hours. The ride itself is full of surprises and fun details. We especially enjoyed the room cleaner that showed up after we crashlanded in the Hilton Hotel and complained about us landing on her spare lightbulbs and that noone gambles any more in Vegas, instead everyone enjoys the family attractions. Our main reason for this USA-trip was to visit Star Trek - the Experience (yes, some people are THAT crazy) and we were not disappointed.

By the way - we managed top find out how the floor works: It has a transparent layer, so they can change what is beneath.

Early Edition (1996–2000)
A show for everyone from 5 to 500
5 January 2001
The German title of Early Edition is "Alone Against The Future" which would imply a science fiction show. I was disappointed when I found out that it wasn't - for about 30 seconds. Then it caught me and never released me again. Every single episode is brilliant, Kyle Chandler portrays Gary beautifully and very believably, the plots are smart, humourous and thrilling. It is fascinating (and often funny) to see how creative Gary is in solving his daily "Save Chickago" tasks. After watching I always have learned a principle, I feel entertained, my faith in the good im man is strengthened and I am eager to watch the next episode. Parents, this is the show You can have Your children watch instead of all this Pokemon crap.

Gattaca (1997)
Well designed, perfectly acted, highly intelligent movie
21 January 1999
Gattaca is a very enjoyable movie with a cold yet aesthetic, stainless-steel-grey-in-grey design that reminds of a 70's scifi-movie. Ethan Hawke plays credibly and Uma Thurmans surrealistic face expression makes her look like a Dali painting. The plot is intelligent yet not too predictable. What really frightens, is that it states that the plot is in the future but does not mention how far; some details indicate, however that it could be not very far...
