The definitive sci-fi movie of the 1950's
2 March 1999
This movie is often overlooked and underrated as one of the first/best science fiction movies, esp. coming out of the 1950's. I was 10 years old when I saw this movie for the first time, way back in 1977. I couldn't leave my seat, waiting to see if they make it off Earth in time. This was my childhood "Titanic", even today, when I have to do something ASAP, I hear in my head: "Only five days till Belus, Hurry, you must Hurry". Yes the f/x are not great by any stretch, but they don't need to be. I could watch this movie everyday.

Pre-X-Files.....Maybe?
25 February 1999
Ok, no, this isn't one of the greatest movies of all time by any means, but it does have some very interesting theories and suggestions, ala the "X-Files". If you were between 10-14 during the late 70's and early 80's, you'll remember the movies that dealt with such mysteries as Bigfoot, Noah's Ark, and (didn't this one just scare the be-jesus out of you!) Nostradomas, narrated by Orsen Welles. I think the movie is entertaining, even though it is "dated" by today's standards. I also don't think it's a strech to say this could have been the very birth of the X-Files as we now know it.

A good WWII movie/story....
20 February 1999
I think this is one of the unacclaimed WWII movies. I find it very entertaining and interesting. If you like Lee Marvin, you will like this movie. The only better movie he did, (in my humble opinion) was the classic "The Dirty Dozen". Until "Saving Private Ryan" came out, this was my favorite "modern" WWII movie. I love how it goes from N.Africa all the way to Berlin. I find especially interesting because I know two Individuals who went through those theater's of operations. A movie definitely worth watching.

A great coming of age movie!
13 February 1999
This is a great coming of age movie. It's also based on a true story, which makes it even better in my opinion, with Jeff Bridges starring in one of his better, yet lesser known roles. If you liked "Stand By Me" and other such movies, you will love this one.

One of the better time travel movies
12 February 1999
One of the better time travel movies. This movie is cute, funny and has that "something" we can all relate to. Who wouldn't love to go back and change things when they were in high school? It's also sad in way, because she doesn't really change anything, and goes and faces the future she knows. I really like Kathleen Turner especially during the 80's, and this one is one of my favorites. I gave it a 10, knowing it's not Gone With the Wind or such, but it's just a good movie, plain and simple.

A WWII must see movie
4 February 1999
This movie, like the "The Sullivans" is extremely had to find at your video store. Set in Ithaca, Calif. It's the story of young boy(played by Mickey Rooney) who delivers telegrams in his small town during the war. Needless to say he has to deliver the heart wrenching "Dear Sir/Ma'am: The War Department regrets to inform you of the death of your son........" It truly is a great movie of small town values, hopes and fears during the war. If you liked the Sullivans, this movie will move you also. And interesting note here, is that the book was published after the movie.

A Forgotten Classic
2 February 1999
I think this movie is one of the better musicals to come out of the '50s. Gene Kelley and Van Johnson make such a great team, it's a shame they didn't do more movies together. Johnson's timing and sarcastic remarks are truly funny. Cyd Charrise is also enjoyable in her Scottish role. This movie is very enjoyable for the whole family.
