Hollow Man (2000)
For crying out loud it isn't that bad...
OK so the characters don't get developed really well at all...I will admit to that. But you really have to like the special effects in this movie, and I've never really been somebody who put too much of value on that in a movie. Like another poster said, the scenes where the serum is going through Kevin Bacon's body is an instant classic. Even if you hated this movie, I can't imagine people not thinking that was at least pretty cool. Thing I don't get is, they could pretty much tell he was acting weird and was susceptible to abuse the newfound ability he had, and they had the ability at a time to turn him back into being visible but they didn't. To me, that just screams idiocy and I think they should have left out the part where he returns after freaking out Elizabeth Shue in her apartment. The scenes of violence at the end are pretty well done, nice and bloody as well. The dimension of an invisible person and what the characters have to do to expose him and view him adds an extra dimension that most action movies obviously don't have.
Rating: 7/10
Ed (1996)
Trash...
No baseball fan can like this movie. Watching bad effects of a monkey playing the game totally makes this film unwatchable. The person below me said it was a good film, so I took a double take only to find out they said it was so bad that it's hilarious. That could be true I guess. Another side "plot" is the monkey trying to help the bumbling Matt LeBlanc with a girl, which is even more nauseating than the scenes on the field. I think.
Problem Child 3: Junior in Love (1995)
Absolutely horrid...
This is bad even for a TV movie. You really don't expect much from it but it still leaves you feeling as if you just wasted 2 hours of your life. And really, you did. Because some movies are so bad that you can laugh and joke about them with your friends, but then some are to the point that it's just a waste of time and you leave shaking your head as to why they even wasted their and your time with it. John Ritter hasn't always made the best choices in movies but at least he got the heck out of this series before this one came out. He should have gotten out after the first one actually. the only character that I noticed in this movie as the same was the incredibly cardboard and unimportant role of Big Ben...Jack Warden must have really needed the money.
Recommendation to avoid.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
It would be awfully hard to dislike this film.
Normally these sort of warm comedies wouldn't appeal to me...I'm the Adam Sandler type comedy loving, 22 year old college male who hates movies like Steel magnolias. But this movie is funny in its own little way, using the mother's weight and the way DiCaprio's character is mentally challenged to create some funny scenes. Everything in the movie is pretty relevant, it doesn't stray. The thing I love though is that there is true character development, which is missing from so many of the movies I have seen lately. Watch "Hollow Man" and find out about that. Anyways, it has a good ending...it's not incredibly happy, but it's not really sad either...their mother dies and the house burns down (Sorry for the spoiler), but they still have each other and that bond is so strong that you can't feel incredibly sad for them either. A really nice film.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
My fave Indy movie.
Just because I like this movie better than Raiders or Last Crusade doesn't mean I don't like those 2...god no, I love them too...but this one really takes the cake for me, it's one movie (a rare one at that) I never get sick of...you have to go no further than the dinner scene to see why I think..that is my favorite scene in any Indiana Jones movie ever...beats the ending to Raiders and the Holy Grail ending in Last Crusade...because I think it also has a good comedic aspect to it...it's not a COMEDY but you find yourself chuckling a little at it...out of all of them does it have the best plot?? Well no...probably the most basic actually...but wouldn't you say that the temple where Molarum and his disciples worship is probably the most scary place ever seen in any Indy movie?? I sure as hell wouldn't wanna be there, and that makes it more interesting...the only thing I really don't care for in this movie has to be the way ending..once they hit the bridge, it's kinda downhill..but by then luckily there is only 10 minutes left...up till there, it's all good.
Night of the Demon (1980)
So bad it's good...
I can't imagine a movie worse technically than this, and I doubt that the producers took themselves seriously making this movie. It is so bad that it'll have you in fits of laughter. It tries to have a little sub-plot about a strange romance between the monster and a woman in a secluded cabin, but that could have been left out. The monster swings somebody's intestines around, picks a camping bag up and swings it around to impale it on a pole...and best of all, he rips a guy's member off...how could you not laugh?? if this were all done in a more realistic manner (if something that macabre could be realistically at all), maybe it wouldn't have been. But if you like bad movies and you're one of those that likes to watch movies with friends and family only to make fun of them, pick this one up. It's hard to find however.
Half Baked (1998)
Don't be so anal people come on...
From what I see a lot of people saying here, people think humor has to be really sophisticated, like some Dudley Moore movie or something...well ummm no, this movie is funnier than any of Mr. Moore's movies or Woody Allen's movies...of course that's not saying much since NEITHER of them is funny...this movie does a BRILLIANT job of what it sets out to do...and that's just appeal to the part of our brain that doesn't wanna have to think out jokes, doesn't want to have to think at all...is the plot kinda scarce?? Well heck yeah it is, there hardly is one...BUT who can forget the part Jon Stewart (a small BUT funny one) has..who could forget Bob Saget in there...or the parts about Kenny almost getting it up the rear?? Come on people, those are funny...melodramas are made about drug addicts all the time...this is about druggies, only funny..which would you rather watch?? I'll take this.
Happy Gilmore (1996)
Absolutely a side splitting movie, a must see.
If I think back in recent memory I'd be hard pressed to ever think of a movie funnier than this...from beginning to end (well almost) it's just a riot...Chubbs adds so much to this movie too, it's too bad they kill him off...who doesn't love that scene where he is talking to Happy about the alligator that bit his hand off?? God, that's just completely hilarious...the first tournament is just classic humor..and this movie is CONSTANTLY funny up till the very end tournament (gets a little more serious there), except for when he's with Virginia at the hockey arena...I'm a avid golfer, and I can tell you this is the funniest golf movie I've ever seen...it's better than Caddyshack, and I really like Caddyshack..the BEST golf movie however (not really a comedy) is Tin Cup, but I'll comment on that later. Basic idea here is, I can't see how anybody could NOT laugh during Happy Gilmore.
Black Sheep (1996)
Dumb...no make that REALLY dumb.
Hmm, I remember watching this movie a while back...and I must say it is STILL one of the few movies I ever just refused to finish...I looked at the clock and there was half an hour left and I was not gonna make it...think I stopped it when they were near some trailer...I can remember ONE good scene in it..where Farley says "Kill Whitey!!"..that was funny..but was this movie up to Tommy Boy standards?? Oh god no...not even CLOSE...and you thought Tommy Boy had little plot?? Look at THIS movie, it doesn't even have one, I refuse to believe it does...I was just shaking my head the whole time, because I had actually heard this movie was FUNNY...imagine my surprise...the whole fiasco in the cabin?? Not amusing...more or less stupid...I'll go with the more option there...anyways if anybody out there hasn't seen this yet...save yourself an hour and a half and don't bother.
Billy Madison (1995)
Sandler's 2nd funniest movie, very good.
I must say, this movie was pretty downright funny, using a sort of humor that isn't exactly sophisticated...but it works just wonderfully. I won't go over the plot because well, you probably already know it. The finer points of this film, so I think anyways, mainly have to do with him interacting with his hot grade school teacher. I laughed so hard at that "T-T-T-Today Junior!!" at that kid with the stuttering problem, or when he was beating those kids in athletics at the playground. But that thing about the penguin...now that's just plain out weird BUT it is funny when it comes up and it works...good ending too...if you ask me, most movies in the moron humor category (Tommy Boy, Happy Gilmore, etc) kinda have a crappy ending...I actually liked this ending...I'd give it an 8 out of 10.
