Sneak Previews (1975)
thank you Gene Siskel
Gene Siskel died this weekend and it brought back memories of the early show when it was on pbs. He and Ebert shattered the image of critics as uptight prigs in dated tuxes and helped explain what made a movie good or bad in ways we could all relate too. I have no idea how many hours of my life were spent with Gene Siskel but they were enjoyable and enlightening ones. Thank you Gene Siskel.
Allan Quatermain and the Lost City of Gold (1986)
This movie makes Plan 9 from Outer Space look like Citizen Kane
Someday someone will take two competent actors and make a worse picture. The true tragedy of this film is that it's not even camp.
Lonely Are the Brave (1962)
Kirk Douglas's favorite film.
This is one of those quiet movies that will have you remembering it for years. It is Kirk Douglas at his best and a supporting cast of many who went on to become well known. Kirk Douglas has stated he is more proud of this film than any of his others. He should be... it is a masterpiece.
