Wicked in Concert (2021 TV Special)

Disappointing
3 September 2021
Love the Broadway production. Unfortunately, this hour long production has a lot of Glee recast to reimagine the songs...rarely an improvement, as opposed to the Glee performances that preceded this. The PBS fund raising drags out the pain for an extra hour. Can't recommend this to any but the most hardcore Wicked fans.

Decent addition
2 December 2016
As a casual participant in the series, I thought this was a lighthearted, yet worthwhile addition to the series that is now almost 30 years old.

A decent soundtrack helped. I imagine the hardcore folk were disappointed, but it closed a lot of holes and opened other doors. Can't ask more from the Xth episode in a franchise.

I look forward to what they will bring next, though I doubt the Arnold will be a significant player. :(

I'm sure since there is money to be made they will follow this with another...I only hope it is as entertaining.

Maybe I'm too young
25 January 2014
After a dozen attempts to watch this film all the way through, I have failed. It is so racist and dated I can't finish it.

It might have been funny in the 70's, but today it is just painful. From the attempts to poke fun at different cultures to the random cuts from other period pictures it is not worth the investment of your time.

There are scenes like a hangman hanging a horse and a rider. I recognize them as a reference to the Lone Ranger, but it still wasn't enough to keep my interest.

The same was true of the multiple references to someone's shaded view of history that attempts to color the film (but fails).

Not worth the time...
5 October 1999
This movie received so much press I ran out to see it. It is one of the few movies that I regret not only my monetary investment, but also the time I spent watching it. The ending made me (and the rest of the theatre) moan out of disgust, as it was so predictable and cliched. This movie may have to replace "Crybaby" as the worst movie I've seen.

Humorous
5 October 1999
The comedy was definitely worthwhile in this film, though I wouldn't say the best I've seen. This is more of a "renter" due to its lack of believable plot, and far-fetched "action" scenes. I enjoyed the movie, but wouldn't rush back to see it again.

Excellent Movie
5 October 1999
This is one of the best movies I've seen in years. (and unfortunately for my budget, that's quite a few!) The story was great, as was the acting. The effects were not overdone, but just subtle enough to keep it realistic. I was definitely impressed by the thought that had gone into the script. This movie is one of the few I'd recommend as a "first-run" movie, meaning get out there and see it.

Entertaining
5 October 1999
This movie kept me interested, though the skin somewhat distracted from the quality of the film. The action and plot went well together, but like I mentioned, the sex just didn't add to the movie. It is a definite "renter", but make sure the kids aren't home.

Typical Sequel
5 October 1999
Disappointing, as most sequels are. The first movie was unique, original, and entertaining. This one is none of the three. Except for a few (very limited) scenes, this movie could well have been included as a special feature on the DVD for the first without any loss to society.

Good Humor
5 October 1999
The movie was humorous, which is always a good thing for a comedy. The plot was weak, but I didn't really expect much. The ending is really cheezy and the movie over all was just ok. I would say it is worth watching, but don't run out to rent it.

Good, not-so-clean comedy
5 October 1999
I enjoyed the film, though I would have second thoughts about taking my parents to see it with me. The plot is fairly predictable, as is the ending, but the extra storylines keep the movie from being boring. This is definitely a "renter", but maybe not a "first-run" movie.

("renter" meaning see it on video, "first-run" meaning catch it at the theatres)

Good Action/Sci-Fi
5 October 1999
After watching this movie I wanted to run on the walls (literally). It was a flashy techno-drama with great special effects. The story kept me interested, and the acting was good. I would place this in the "first-run" category, meaning get out there and see it in the theatres.

One big ad, but entertaining still
5 October 1999
Episode One is one of those movies that received so much press it couldn't ever live up to all of it, though it managed to not be disappointing. Overall the story seemed to lack actual meat. I felt much like I did after "Back to the Future Part II". That is I found myself wondering why I just paid to watch a 2-hour trailer for the the next in the series.

Interesting and odd
5 October 1999
I went to see this with no idea what it was about. Somehow I missed all the ads for it I guess (were there any?) Anyway, I quickly realized this was not the typical teenie-bopper movie, and really dug into it. I enjoyed the story, and the outcome. The movie resisted the urge to be the "feel-good" film that so many are today. It is one of the few tragedies I think I've seen in years. It is well worth the time to watch, and I recommend you rent it some night when you aren't in the mood for a comedy.

Not Indiana Jones, but still worthwhile
5 October 1999
This movie provided a good laugh a few times, but overall it was only mildly entertaining. It did manage to hit one several genres, but failed to master any of them. The horror was cheesy, as was the drama, and the action. The humor was canned at times, but that fact that the movie was coherent with all four of these made it worth watching. It is a "renter", meaning wait for the video.

Long, but worthwhile
5 October 1999
The movie was heavily marketed, and as such I expected great things from it. Fortunately it lived up to the hype (which is rare.) After seeing it in the theatre and loving it, I tried to watch it on video a few months later but couldn't. It is extremely slow once you know the story line. Definitely worth watching once, but not worth owning.

The classic action film
5 October 1999
This is one of the best movies I have seen. It is the first of 3 in a great series, a series that knew when to quick too. All three are well worth the time, but this is the most entertaining of them. The action is just right, and the story just flows. This is a definite "first-run" film.

Not Star Wars, but worthwhile
14 March 1999
Overall the movie was entertaining. It was fairly "low tech" as far as the weapons and vehicle were concerned, but not to the point that the special effects were lacking. I am probably one of the few folks who actually played the PC game about 5 years ago, but it really had nothing to do with enjoying the movie. The storyline is fairly similar to other space films, such as Starship Troopers, in that an alien race is coming to destroy the earth. The difference with this movie is that they built in enough sub-plot to make it tolerable. Overall this is a definite "renter" and maybe a "2nd Run" movie.
