Dream Scenario (2023)
A near perfect despiction of Cancel Culture
I didn't know anything about this movie except Nicolas Cage was in it.
I never watch trailers, or read plot lines cos I don't like to have any pre conceptions, and I like to make my head work while watching a movie. 99% of the time you don't really need much "work" to figure out what you are getting within the first 10 minutes.
But on those rare occasions, you find a film that have something original in it, and that's when it really paid off not knowing anything about it.
There are no spoilers here, I will describe the first minutes of it
On the first sequence things falls from the sky for no reason. A girl starts elevating, asking help to her father who watches while doing nothing.
It was a dream sequence the girl had, that she tells her parents and sister while having breakfast. His father is clearly upset her own daughter sees him as someone who won't do anything in a situation like that.
Next we found the father is professor who is talking about how the zebras, although with a pretty unconventional aspect manages to hide from the lion or their hunter by looking all the same and not sticking their heads up.
"Ok, this is interesting".
That's the 5 first minutes of the film, and the writer clearly showed me he has something to tell.
I hate spoilers so I won't talk about what happens in the movie, I'm just going to say this film makes one of the best (if not The Best) comments on Cancel Culture, Social Media, and the stupidity we unfortunately are suppose to tolerate in present days.
The collective illusion that something happened is enough to make it true nowadays.
That something is one thing when clearly is not, that too.
Is enough that one, two or five people starts saying, clamming, or condemning somebody over nothing out of nowhere, if it sticks on social media, it multiplies, then that is also true.
This movie is a near perfect portrait of this collective insanity the world have fallen into.
I say near and not just plain perfect, cos the resolution, make the message lose some of its power, maybe cos the writer/director didn't want to end the film like it should be, otherwise it would be a 10.
I don't rate 10s easily, is been years since the last 10 I gave to a movie, so this one pretty much exceled my expectations.
Blue Beetle (2023)
What I just watched?
This is easily in the Top Ten Worst Superhero films I have seen in the last two decades.
Everything in this movie is wrong, starting from its inception.
First of all, I strongly dislike the discount version of an original super heroe.
The DEI and ESG are strong with this one, but they are heavily typecasting them...! I don't they Mexican people could feel "represented" in here, unless they enjoy watching themselves the same way Hollyweird have always portrait them.
The plot is as basic as it gets, acting is mediocre, FX boring and cheap.
DC have literally no indentity whatsoever, throwing random flicks here and there, one worse the the previous one.
Also, why Mexican's have to be Illegal Immigrants?
Why "Grandma" has to be a "revolutionary"?
Why throw shade at Batman?
Why do I have to root for this characters?
Why are you trying so hard to kill the superhero genre with garbage like this?
Do you enjoy losing money?
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Among the very Worst of the MCU
Don't get me wrong, this won't take the Crown to the Eternals, that's on another level. But this movie is BAD.
The story is bad, the passing super inconsistent, the use of the Guardians of the Galaxy is terrible (except for Chris Pratt, who actually had a "scenes" the rest could be just CGI characters with random lines from other movies), excessive use of exposition.
Now to the really bad, we seen this already:
1) Protagonist not being the full protagonist.
2) Swap Gender/Race Character taking the Spotlight from Protagonist to make "the Ultimate Sacrifice"
3) Swap Gender/Race Character saving the Protagonist
3) Protagonist made look like unresourceful, idiot or both.
4) Villain having a redemption arc cos of love
5) Dumb Humor
6) Inclusiveness
7) Deconstruction of the Male Protagonist
8) Forgettable/Generic VFX
9) Generic fight scenes.
10) Reverting or destroying previous lore
The End of the MCU.
Kajillionaire (2020)
Pure garbage
Film like this one is why I stopped watching 95% of the movies that are being released nowadays, being from Hollywood or Independent.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Bad, terrible bad.
The damage this movie have made to the franchise is worse than anyone could have imagine when released.
Side Effects (2005)
One mess of a movie.
I'm still in shocked, wondering how come a movie can be so horrible done. This movie has good intentions. Trying to open people's eyes is always a good thing. But that's about it. Good intentions.
The movie follows the story about a young woman who finds herself into the world of the pharmaceutical industry, while trying to maintain her ideals and integrity.
20 minutes into the film, and you'll be already laughing at how bad is this movie. Sub plots coming out of nowhere, bad acting performances, lack of rhythm, no direction whatsoever, painfully edited, sometimes shots are even out of focus
. I can go on forever. Katherine Heigl tries to put something out of nothing, but that's just not enough.
I've rated a 3/10, only because of the good intentions of the film and a plus point for Katherine Heigl.
Sweet Insanity (2006)
Maybe the worst film i've ever seen
This film have one and only great thing: the DVD cover.
When i saw the cover, i've thought this could be interesting. But the movie, about a girl whose friends starts to get kill in his house while having a party, is nonsense, so awfully acted, non existing scripted... even the sound editing is a disaster....
I have seen thousand of films in my life, and i swear this maybe the worst thing i have watch in my life.
The fact that they tried to make this film a "serious" film is what really bugs me.
Low budget horror films, in my opinion have two alternatives: a) they must have a good script, or b) they can go bizarre. I've seen great low budget films, which are at least enjoyable for their bizarre style (Evil Dead). Well, this haven't gone either a or b.
If you'll decide to punish yourself with this crap, at least don't miss the very last scene.... that girl makes Pamela Anderson looks like Mery Streep.
