Burnout (1979)
Formula story about a man who wants to make it on his own without his dad's help.
Formula story about a man who wants to make it on his own without his dad's help. Productions values are one step above home movie. Considering it's a movie about drag racing, there is very little racing in the movie, although there is a never ending string of blue grass music to keep you from falling asleep.
Wings (1990)
One of the best written, most underrated sitcoms ever produced.
Wings became a "must see" for us every week. It was easy to sit back and watch the further adventures of the Hackett brothers, Helen, Fay, Lowell and Roy. Anyone who watched this show on a regular basis can easily see the parentage in both Cheers and Taxi. But Wings was the best of the three. The characters were complete without being stereotyped. The character of Roy Biggins was much like Taxi's Louie DePalma or Cheer's Carla Tortelli, but he got as much as he gave. And instead of having just one male lead, Wings gave us brothers - different, but not too different. We were sad when the original run came to an end, but the reruns as still just as funny as they were the first time around. If you watch a few episodes, you will probably get hooked. Enjoy!
Creator (1985)
An unwarrantedly neglected film
With no advance knowledge of this film, I found it to be delightful and worth seeing again. I recommended it all my friends (none of whom at seen it at their cinemas) and everyone who rented the video also enjoyed it.
The only negative was the casting of Mariel Hemingway as the "live" person who captures Professor Wolper's heart. Ms. Hemingway demonstrated none of the charm his first wife possessed. I could see the professor moving on to someone else after all those years, but never to someone so irritating.
My recommendation? Rent the movie, and watch it with someone you really care about.
