The Sixth Sense (1999)
Great Story, Great Acting, Crappy Photography
A most amazing ending really saved this film. I was enthralled by Haley Joel Osment's acting. This kid will go far! Bruce is his typical, dry self. Supporting cast does well to keep up with the kid. Tak Fujimoto is the director of photography. Is it some kind of fashion to use handheld cameras or what? I almost got sick a few times from dizziness!
I rarely review films unless they are very good or very bad.
I recommend this film. But take your dramamine!
What Dreams May Come (1998)
Tear-jerker for sure; Oscar-winner, nay.
I rarely give a 10 for any film and this one doesn't get it either.
But it does get a solid 9. Robin Williams is an actor in metamorphosis. Formerly nothing but a funny man with insults, dick-jokes and pratter, now a formative leader with depth.
Cinematography and CGI is phenom. Story is not deep, but it doesn't have to be. This is entertainment, not a science project. Take it for what it is. A love story that exceeds life. Who says Heaven is a place that you've got figured out from the start. One can only imagine how confusing death will be.
Enjoy with friend and a box of tissue.
Mister Frost (1990)
Goldbulm good, movie bad...
Being a fan of Jeff Goldblum was the only reason to even pick this one off the "Favorites" shelf at Blockbuster.
I was, as always, impressed with Goldblum's savvy expressionism. His adroit tendency to make any other character in the film a hero or dolt as he chooses.
Where the hell was this film set anyway? American cars, Euro tags, accents from almost everywhere...
I'm quite sure that the best of this movie ended up in the director's pants and on the editing room floor. What exactly was the point, anyway? Was he really the devil? Did it really matter?
Another commenter stated it correctly that the best of the movie was in the opening scenes. We could have stayed on that tact, but no.
If you have other things to do, skip this one.
