The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)
Amazing story, special effects
awesome sums up my experience. Long movie!, it flies by as the film is very engaging and the filming is beautiful. I always dread a Disney production that is not animated because I don't think they do as well, but this is absolutely fabulous. Yes there is some violent parts in the battle, but no blood is seen and it is clear cut between good and evil. The theater was filled with children and as I would normally be annoyed by the noise the kids make, in this theater they were extremely quiet which means to me, that the movie has what it takes to keep their attention. Hooray for another excellent film.
A must see on the big screen for all ages.
I Remember Mama (1948)
OK, this Story made me cry
I just by chance selected this at the video store. I've seen so many movies, it's hard to choose and this one I hadn't seen before. From start to finish, this movie draws you into the story. Even though in modern day, familys are not as close knit has depicted in this film, it make your heart wish that it was. The family unity and commitment to one another in the movie was heart wrenching. Before long, the tears were flowing and I could only think about how hard life must of been for my own parents raising 5 children. I wonder if children who watch this movie might more appreciate what lenght parents go to in order to make their children's lives better. The accents were so authentic sounding (to my American ears at least) that I never questioned the familys heritage. A great movie about people and the lives they live. Wonderful
Chocolat (2000)
I Liked just about everything
The best thing about this movie for me was the Soundtrack which was done by Rachel Portman. Every number on this soundtrack is outstanding. The combination of story, scenery, music and cast makes this one fine movie to view. Juliette Binoche is beautiful and graceful and though Not my favorite Johnny Depp film, he fills the required romance needed in this movie. Who could not watch a movie with so much Chocolate involved!! Just about everybody loves Chocolate and so this ingredient brings together old lovers to new lovers and old friends to new friends. Amazing how much harmony can result from so much sugar. I was pretty much mesmerized by this film and I think you will be too.
Tovarich (1937)
Too Silly for Me
I love old movies, so when I saw this was considered a 3 star movie, I though great another great movie to watch. My disappointment did not take long to evolve. Not only was it hard to pretend that the two main characters (boyer and Colbert) were Russian at all!! With her English accent and his Obvious French Accent was distracting to say the least. I know they were royalty, but come on!, the simplest of house task for these two as domestic servants was ridiculous. Story was mildly hard to follow and boring at times. Colbert was a bit of an over actor in this one. If the story is suppose to be in a particular country or suppose to have a particular nationality for the characters, it would be better to have them both speak a fake accent or at least both speak with an English accent so at least we can reasonable pretend they are from Russia!!
King Arthur (2004)
Casting could have been better
I enjoyed this movie very much in spite of the casting errors. The leader of the Saxon's and his son were more believably from Tennessee then they were from the UK or Scotland. At any moment I expected this guy to start singing Charlie Daniels songs. I liked the characters of the knights very much and felt all played the parts well. As for Kiera Knightly, I think an actress with more stage depth would have been a better choice. I can't believe that Hollywood still feels the need to dress up their star damsel in tiny clothing to give the movie a supposed lift. I doubt very much that this was the clothing of choice in that time period had this been a factual story. This has nothing to do with her ability to fight alongside men, but please lets be real. If you like period pieces, this is very well done with the war scenes unstaged looking. I like the idea that more time was spent on the conflict of the times than by the romance of it. Over all I would rate this a 7 out of 10.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Awesome Movie- Better than the first one
This again like the first Spiderman Movie, was very entertaining from start to finish. Effects were very real and I love the human side of the super being. Toby Macguire is the perfect choice for the role, as a pretty superstar would not have been as believable. This movie has just the right amount of action mixed with the right amount of romance and still leaves time to develop the story to show his love for his family and friends and why he does what he does. There is nothing worse than watching a movie that does not develop the plot, but that is not the case in this film. When a movie ends in what seems like 20 minutes, than you know they have your attention and this movie certainly had mine!
