Strawberry Estates (1997)
Worse that the Worst
After sitting through "The Blair Witch Project," which had to be the most boring, poorly photographed, pointless and worst acted movie I'd ever seen, I truly didn't think movies could get any worse! SURPRISE! "Strawberry Estates" takes the cake, big time. What on earth were the filmmakers and actors thinking? What was this movie about anyway? The whole thing was so boring, amateurish and made no sense, I can't believe it was actually made. I can only say "thank heaven for fast forward on the DVD player." A total waste of time. I haven't seen any other films from director/producer Ron Bonk, but if this is any indication of his work, I think I'm going to pass on checking out any of his other titles. Sorry, but the money spent on this film would have been better spent for dinner at a nice restaurant!
That's My Wife (1929)
The Best Laurel & Hardy of them all
Undoubtedly the most hilarious Laurel & Hardy of all - but that's just my opinion. The first time I saw this film I was literally crying from laughter, especially during the lost necklace/dance sequence in the restaurant. Laurel in drag as Hardy's wife is absolutely priceless! No matter how many times I see it, I still laugh out loud, thank heaven for DVD and for Laurel & Hardy for leaving us with so much laughter and happiness!
Unfaithful (2002)
What's the point of this movie?
Don't get me wrong, I love Diane Lane and Richard Gere, they're both very talented and versatile. But as far as this movie goes - what were they thinking? Lane - Oscar worthy? I think any actress in Hollywood could have played the same role with no problem.
Predictable? Just how many times have we seen the same movie already - if not in theaters, on Lifetime TV? The only difference being the ending - I certainly did not expect that!
I could and would NOT recommend this movie to anyone....what a snoozer!
My Foolish Heart (1949)
My Favorite Tearjerker
One of the most romantic, sad films you'll ever see. Susan Hayward and Dana Andrews are wonderful in this classic film. I've seen it a dozen times and never fail to tear up at the end.
Don't miss this one!
Ransom! (1956)
A real nail-biter!
I was glued to the television screen as the suspense unfolded. Ford and Reed are great as the parents of the kidnapped boy. The story was very well written and the acting very good. A great movie for a rainy afternoon.
Deliberate Intent (2000)
Dramatic, Insightful, Makes you think.
Deliberate Intent starring Timothy Hutton, is one of the best courtroom dramas I've seen in quite some time. The story is very well written and really makes you wonder how far the 1st Amendment can really go. The content of the film is also quite disturbing - one man will stop at nothing for money and another man will stop at nothing for justice. The acting is very good, the story very well written and the pace keeps the viewer glued to the screen till the final fade out.
U-571 (2000)
WOW! What a ride!
U-571 is definitely one of the best nail biters I've ever seen! The acting is very good, the story great, and the suspense never stops! Claustrophobic - yes! Tense - yes! This is one you will NOT want to miss seeing on the big screen.
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000)
What were they thinking?
The first 10 minutes or so were a lot of fun - seeing the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon that I grew up with really brought back the memories. I sat there thinking, "if this movie is as good as this first part, I'm gonna love it!" TIMEOUT! It seems as though the minute the 'real' characters took over the screen, the movie spiraled downward and never came back. I was hoping Rene Russo would have more to say in the film as I loved her 'cartoon' character, imagine my surprise when she said anything. The movie was very short but seemed like hours. I was not impressed and I still want to know - just what was it all about?
Arlington Road (1999)
Suspenseful and very scary!
I saw Arlington Road a few weeks ago and I'm still thinking about it. Very scary, very real, lots of suspense and great acting by Bridges, Robbins and Cusack. If the first five minutes doesn't have you wondering and guessing, just wait until the last fifteen. It's a great script and very well done. I highly recommend this movie if you want a good scare or if you feel the need for a great, edge-of-the-seat nail-biter!
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
The Ghost and Mr. Chicken was more frightening!
The Blair Witch Project is being called one of the scariest movies ever by more than one person I know. Quite frankly, I was practically bored to sleep. The story idea is really great but the photography (video camera bouncing all over the place), the 'effects' and the acting (I was praying the Witch would get the woman just to shut her up) certainly leave something to be desired. I'd say the scariest part of the movie was trying to determine whether I should tell friends about it or not!
The Haunting (1963)
Fasten your Seatbelts!
One of the scariest, most frightening movies ever. The black and white photography only adds to the terror. The acting is great if not a bit over the top for Julie Harris. Get a big bowl of popcorn, turn off the lights, curl up on the couch and fasten your seatbelt for a pretty scary ride!
