Crank Yankers (2002)
Absolutely pathetic
So Comedy Central is betting the farm on this one, eh? They shouldn't. I made the mistake of leaving my television on past "South Park" last night (which has become a waste of time in its own right, far from the comic genius it once was) and "Crank Yankers" came on. I figured, hey, I'll see what Comedy Central is advertising so incessantly. Maybe, for once, it'll actually be something funny.
Boy, was I wrong. The puppets are poorly puppeteered, the calls entirely uninspired and completely unfunny, and the little "animation" sequences poorly done and with no humor value whatsoever. The whole show looks like it belongs more on a public access station than on a nationwide network -- but that's what we've come to expect from Comedy Central lately anyway, isn't it?
If you're looking to spend a half hour sometime, you could certainly do better than "Crank Yankers" by following your local road crews out next time they do a patch and watching the patch cure instead. What a horrible waste of a satellite signal.
Working (1997)
Too politically correct
My wife introduced me to this show back in 1998. It had its comedic moments but the political correctness just stunk way too badly to make it into my regular TV-watching schedule.
Of course, the second season cast just stunk on its own merits without being polluted as such. If you must watch, watch the first season -- but take it with a grain of salt.
Boston Common (1996)
Excellent comedy! Why was it cancelled?
Boston Common ranks right up there with the best sitcoms I've seen. Anthony Clark does a superb job as Boyd, and the chemistry between him and Hedy Burress playing his sister Wyleen is awesome. The rest of the cast (with the possible exception of Vincent Ventresca as Jack Reed, who comes across as pretentious) rounds out everything very well. Highly recommended!
Mother (1996)
Horridly boring comedy
I couldn't stop from falling asleep. After seeing the previews, I though this might have been a good film to rent. Instead, I risked putting my then-date (thank goodness she forgave me later and married me!) into a coma. I can't remember more than two moments where I actually laughed at this movie. I highly recommend you see something else.
