La piovra: Il patto (1998)
A very rich, complex movie.
This three-hour long movie is very rich in plot. Although it's not a movie of perfect ten, it got all the elements you've ever want to have for a mafia movie. Rating: 7/10
Grosse Pointe Blank (1997)
One of the best hit man movie
I like this movie very much being that 1. It's a movie about hit man but not bloody, 2. It's a movie with action but did not get on my nerve, 3. It's a movie that Ally and I both like to watch.
Most Wanted (1997)
Good scenario, but worse plot and acting.
If Rainbow can be a good film, Most Wanted can too. But it just happened not to be a good one.
This film got good element: screen play and actor. And bad element: director.
Lack of tension is its fatal problem.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
With time and persistence, you can make it.
I just visited a prison museum in north China, which was a real prison used in early 1900s. This movie reminds me of horrible dark room, sodomy, and brutal corporal punishment that actually can happen to you in the jail.
Whether you are innocent or not, once you are IN the jail. You are all the same. Your are finished. But, Andy Dufresne(Tim Robbins) is not. With hope and his persistence, he escaped from jail after 20 years. Imagine to dig a big cement hole with the small stone hatchet! Amazing.
Where there is a will, there is a way. This movie is encouraging.
Bo li zhi cheng (1998)
The best romance film to watch with your ex-girlfriend
This movie is so sweet that I gave it a score of 8/10 already when I was at 1/3 of this film. When I watched it till the end, it won my heart totally and got a score of 10/10!
This film reminds me Leon Lai's previous film Tianmimi(1986) which won Best Picture of Hongkong Film Award. Both love story films also describe social and political happenings of their time which made them a classic.
I was deeply touched by this movie not just for love story part, but for the plot of hardship life of studying abroad in 70's, political demonstration, language barrier, and Hongkong's destiny. That's a slice of my life and many Chinese'.
This is a classic love story. Bravo.
Legionnaire (1998)
You can see Jean-Claude Van Damme acting and some eye-opening battles in the desert. Not much else left.
With Jean-Claude Van Damme starring the film, it's supposed to be a good action film. It barely is. And that's it.
Some battle scenes on the desert and at the fortress are well arranged and shot. Besides that, it seems that through out the movie the script lacks of strong reasoning. Van Damme tries to show his comradeship in the film as main theme, but I am not moved at all.
This movie lacks of some "chemical elements" to make it a better action film.
