What does one expect from a movie starring Woody Allen and Tracey Ullman? A BRILLIANTLY FUNNY even SIDE SPLITTING flick. Sorry. 'taint so for this one. Thanks goodness this monstrosity came out AFTER Christmas; it would have dampened the holiday a few months ago. You watch this flick and don't know whether to laugh or take it seriously. It starts out okay but then one look at Gary Sinese in that silly looking hippie wig and he looks like an ugly store mannequin and you laugh. Then the blood makes you cringe. The lines are silly; Ben Affleck is miscast; Cherize Theron's chest a is flat as the story line and you still don't know whether to laugh or cry or cringe or go to the restroom. Santa Clauses holding up a casino-can you imagine? And the only Santa left after the mayhem ends stuffs the loot into mailboxes as Christmas presents. Wow is this baby a royal stinker? Film of the year. Tom Hanks will win the Oscar for the Best

Actor. Michael Duncan will win the Oscar for Best Supporting

Actor. It will win the Oscar for best screen adaptation from a

book. Frank Darabont will win the Oscar for Best Director and

I'm willing to bet I've skipped over other Oscars too. It is one

of the most memorable, touching and thought provoking films I

have seen in 50+ years of moviegoing. The praise of this film is

limitless and it's simply a must-see,

A complete waste of time and money. A stupid story, lousy acting

and an ending that defies logic, reason and appreciation. One is

not sure whether to laugh or shudder during this abominable time

Here it is, two days later and I'm still laughing. It's a don't miss flick if you want to stray from violence and all that jazz. A wonderfully innovative script written by Steve Martin and played to the max by him and two-role brilliant Eddie Murphy. The funniest film I've seen in a long time.

Oh brother-I just saw this "thing" and it had to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen in fifty years of moviegoing.

"Summer of Sam" is supposed to be the title. GARBAGE! MISLEADING!It's a porno flick with the madman David Berkowitz playing cameo snuff takes. You like the four letter word starting with "F?" Then it's for you because if it's not used 10,000 times in that rotten piece of celluloid, it's not used once. If it's supposed to be about Berkowitz, it failed. If it was supposed to be a social commentary, it failed. The film was gross and slapped together to make big bucks fast and Spike is pulled it off. It's like this. If you want to see a film about sex, then go to a film which advertises it as its main theme. If you want to see a film which chronicles the immediate post-Nam era, then go to one designed to target the theme. But for heaven's sake, to see a film about a man who scared the hell out of millions of New Yorkers and find out that such heinous crimes are TANGENTIAL to the basic plot while oral sex, straight sex, gay sex, orgyistic sex and sex sex is the MAIN THEME

In 1949, I was 11years old and saw it in NYC when it was first released. My aunt Ethel, may she rest in peace, took me during Christmas vacation. I was mesmerized by it which led me to check out the story in that Chapter of the O.T. called Judges. And I remember being asked by my 6th or 7th grade teacher to do an oral report about the film before the class. I found it a bit awkward to discuss the idea of seduction at that time especially when I heard the pubescent girls giggling. At any rate I did make that report and remember displaying the book I had bought about the film right at the theater. I estimate from age 11 to 14, I saw the film a dozen times and I'm not kidding. In my adulthood, I saw it once on free TV and rented it once for kicks. Quite honestly, I never saw a more beautiful woman than Hedy in that role. And Victor was perfect thanks to his countenance and physique. After seeing it first and then reading the story in the O.T. I came to the conclusion that the film certainly was factual and illuminating. The bible came alive thanks to the genius of Cecil B.DeMille. The special effects were brilliant, way ahead of its time. What I especially loved about this film was the haunting score by Victor Young and I do remember going out to buy it on 78 rpm disks. And I do have the radio program on cassette, "Lux Presents Hollywood-Samson and Delilah starring Mature and Lamarr. That last scene will always stick in my mind as Samson, standing blind between the two main pillars of the Temple of Dagon, the Phillistine God,called on Jehovah to give him the strength to crush his enemies and WHAT A SCENE FOLLOWED. Based on it's majesty, scope, color and overall brilliance, it must rank as one of the greatest of all American films however it is NOT as good as Margaret Mitchell's book which must be the greatest of all American novels. To understand the complexities of Scarlett's nature, one should have seen all three of her children in the film and her resentment of all but the one from Rhett Butler She had absolutley no use for her offspring from her husbands Charles and then after his death, Frank, which went to prove what a beast she had become. This was omitted in the film. In the film, the burning of Atlanta was just about on par with the book's description but to be honest. Mitchell let you smell the smoke and cringe from the flames. The casting was superb because as one reads the novel, there could have been only one Rhett Butler, Clark Gable; one Scarlett,Vivian Leigh; one Ashley Wilkes,Leslie Howard and one Melanie Griffith,Olivia DeHavilland. Read it first and then see the film a
