Splitting Heirs (1993)
Great cast and a hilarious comedy.
I can't believe this comedy is rated so low. I've seen this movie and I thought it was a great comedy. I can understand not everyone will enjoy this movie, but if you love typical British "Eric Idle" humor, then this is your ticket !
Eric Idle plays Tommy Patel, a guy who's adopted and raised by Asian parents. On one day he comes to believe that he's the biological heir. He hates the American heir (Rick Moranis) who turns out to be the fake heir, so Tommy Patel will do anything to conquer his place to become the rich heir.
Great cast, good acting and a hilarious comedy.
If one of the readers love British humor ("Life of Brian" or "The Holy Grail") then you'll love this movie.
My rating: 7,5
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Brilliant but not scary
I am a bit disappointed about this movie. Don't get me wrong: I think it is a brilliant idea (script) and the actors played very convincing,.....but it just didn't scare me. Not even for one second.
I bought the DVD without watching it first, and maybe it's because I expected too much of it or something, but I didn't find it scary. Maybe it only "works" in the cinema, but I did everything I could to make it scary: Watched it at night, turned off the lights, closed all the curtains, putt up the volume,....but it just wasn't scary. The only time when it was becoming scary, the movie ended.
Once again; the actors played very well, the idea of the script is just brilliant and it's not a bad movie, but I don't think it was very scary. And that was my reason for buying it. I thought it was going to be one of the most scary movies I've seen, which turned out to be a big disappointment.
My Rating: 6
Das Boot (1981)
209 minutes of excitement
Probably one of the best submarine movies I've ever seen. It's so realistic and it's so intense that it will grab your attention during the whole movie.
I didn't expect it was this good, because I don't watch many foreign movies (made outside the US), because the ones I've seen were waste of time. But I have to admit that this one is very very good. I've seen the Director's Cut (209 minutes) and I never got bored for even one second.
The one I've seen was German Audio with English subtitles. I know that many will avoid those subtitled movies, but you won't be disappointed. Go rent it or buy it, because this is a very good movie.
My rating: 8
A Simple Plan (1998)
One of the best movies I've seen recently
The cover/poster of this movie looked a bit boring to me so I never watched it, but after I'd seen so many good reviews on IMDb, I decided to watch it and I'm glad I did, because I thought it was superb.
After 10 minutes you automaticly ask yourself: "What if I...", which directly will be answered with: "Keep it !!!". But this movie is so great that you'll think twice about it. This is a real mind-blower, if you ask me.
Respect was dripping of my couch for Billy Bob Thornton (Jacob) who played an outstanding role. Thornton was just fantastic.
I highly recommend this movie to everyone. It's maybe one of the best movies I've seen recently and I'm definitely going to buy it at Amazon.
My rating: A well deserved 8
Cruel Intentions (1999)
'mmm...okay
I thought it was okay. I'm not bursting with fruit flavor or anything, but it was okay. I wonder how this movie would be with other actresses, because I think that Witherspoon & Gellar "make" this movie. No offence, Ryan :-)
Reese Witherspoon was as good as always. And it's the first movie I've seen with Sarah Michelle Gellar and I have to admit that I am impressed. Not only because of her looks, but I thought she played very well in this movie. She's a keeper :-)
But the movie itself was...well...mmm..okay. I think everyone, without any expectations, would not be disappointed and will think this movie is okay...or better.
Overall; 7 points
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999)
copy austin/copy sequel
If you've seen the fist movie, this sequel is not funny. It has the same jokes at (almost) the same time as in the first movie. Some few different actors and that's it (Graham instead of Hurley), but the movie is just the same. Maybe this movie is more about Dr Evil than Austin Powers. Some new parts are good (Jerry Springer's scene), but it's basically a copy of the first.
It is a funny movie though,... but only if you haven't seen the first one. Maybe I expected more of it, but than again, it's still just a copy of the first movie.
Rating if you have seen the first one: 5
Big Daddy (1999)
Many laughs, enjoyable and a touching end
I've always enjoyed watching Adam Sandler movies. I thought it couldn't get any better than "Happy Gilmore", but Sandler proves that it CAN be done.
This comedy has it al: many laughs, enjoyable to watch and a touching end.
It is difficult to recommend comedies to someone, but I highly recommend this movie to people who also enjoyed "Happy Gilmore". The delivery guy is played by Rob Schneider who also plays in my favorite tv-series "Man Behaving Badly" aka "It's a Man's World".
You can easily watch this movie 20 times.

Carlito's Way (1993)
Perfect
Brian De Palma and Al Pacino are back after Scarface. Carlito Brigante (Pacino) is an ex-druglord who comes out of jail and wants to stay legitimate, what turns out to be tougher than expected. His attorney, played by Sean Penn, is a cocaine-addict who brings a lot of trouble with him.
I really ejoyed this movie. It has a touching end and you'll be thinking about this movie for hours after you've seen it. Very good!

Election (1999)
Very amusing!
Very amusing movie, with some extraordinary performances of Reece Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick.
Excellent story about a popular teacher (Broderick) who will do anything to avoid Tracy (Witherspoon) from winning the president school-election. Tracy is a real goal-getting, overachieving student who will do anything to win the election. And the teacher, Mr McAllister, hates students like Tracy.
This movie got my attention for the whole 103 minutes. I really enjoyed it. I've seen it three times now and every time I'm stunned by the performance of Reece Witherspoon.
Not many movies have a rating of 8 stars (or above) on IMDB, especially comedies!! There are only a very few comedies with high ratings and THIS is one of them. Enough said !
My rating: (a good solid) 8.
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil (1997)
150 minutes of NOTHING
Unbelievable that someone can make a 150 minutes during movie with nothing in it. At the end of this movie I was asking myself:"What did I just saw ??" and the answere is "nothing". No action, No humor, No Romance, NO STORY, just nothing happens.
Every minute you're thinking:"NOW something is going to happen", but...again nothing. They only thing that happens, is that two and a half hours of your life are being stolen.
I think Clint Eastwood is a very good actor and maybe also a good director, but not in this crappy movie. I've seen lots and lots of movies, and mostly I like all movies. I even like some "bad" movies. There are really a very few movies I didn't like. "Virus" is one of them...and this "NOTHING in the Garden of Good and Evil" is also one of them.
If you don't know what to do in your life, you can borrow this movie. If you want to see ANYTHING, then you better go watch some other movie.
My rating: 0,5 points for the story (if it has any). 4,5 points for John Cusack. (good actor in bad movie) total: 5 points
Analyze This (1999)
Tears of Joy
I saw this movie on a sneak-preview at 11:00 hrs in the morning and it really brought me tears of joy.
It starts when a shrink (Billy Crystal), compulsory gets a patient (Robert De Niro) who is unfortunately the biggest Mafia-boss in town. The shrink is planning to get married with his girlfriend (Lisa Kudrow), but the gangster wants to talk about his feelings.
I never thought Robert De Niro could be this funny. Rent or buy this movie, grab some popcorn, and enjoy !
Compared to other comedies; Rate: 8,5
