Nurse Betty (2000)
Delightfully Different
It starts out innocently enough with a lovely housewife who lives for the soaps on TV. Then she sees her abusive husband brutally murdered. She forgets it completely and finds a new life for herself. She s so sweet and helpless you want her life to come out OK and guess what it does. Morgan Freeman is exceptional in his role as the bad guy who falls in love with her. That's enough for now with a surprise ending. GO SEE!
The End of the Affair (1999)
A Spoiled Affair
This should have been a good movie. The story line was intrigueing and the actors were superb. However, I thought I was going to see a love story in London during WW11 and it would probably be a tear-jerker. Was I ever wrong! When the theatre filled with ladies a group of men came in and sat in front of us. This movie had been playing for a few days and I guess word had got around. We were not thrilled to see nude sex scenes not once, but several times. In a book you can always skip a chapter, but how can you do it on the big screen. If this is against your guidelines, then so be it. Sorry I went to the movies this time.
Mansfield Park (1999)
Nice Biography
The music and scenery was beautiful. Jane Austin's life story was interesting, but boring. A love story with no love expressed by the actors. A comedy with no laughter to share. It was not entertaining by any standard, just a waste of time and certainly not worth the admission price. I wish I had waited for the TV version on PBS.
The Cider House Rules (1999)
The finest movie I have seen in a long time.
It has been many years since I have seen an audience get up and applaud. This is what happened last Sunday afternoon. This movie is all about love and how it affects everyone around us. I highly recommend it for all ages.
The Muse (1999)
A pleasant time at the movies.
The Muse was refreshing and fun to watch. No violence, no sex and no bad language. I recommend this movie for all teen-agers with a little intelligence because they would catch on. Younger children would be bored I"m afraid. I could hear my generation of grand-mothers chuckling away and just enjoying themselves.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Not everyone's cup of tea.
People who have the sixth sense may find this movie interesting. Others I'm afraid will only be bored. The young boy did a fine job of acting but the film was just too slow. The surprise ending was worth waiting for.
The General's Daughter (1999)
Not for children of any age.
This film was well made and acted, however it was a little too graphic for my taste. I prefer to go to the movies to be entertained, not shocked out of my skin. Young people should not view this film, but they will sneak in! It is no wonder we live in a decadent society with this type of entertainment bombarding us. Please, Hollywood, clean it up!
The Mummy (1999)
A Pure Fantasy
Young people may enjoy this type of film. Pure make-believe and exciting computer made graphics. Fun if you don't believe it nor take it seriously. The mature audience would be bored as I was. No substance and weak story.
Instinct (1999)
A great family movie
I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was honest and believable. It was a shame that the music spoiled an academy award for best picture and acting. I also don't understand the R rating. No Sex or Profanity! Truth will prevail as this movie shows.
