A decent attempt at teen comedy
31 July 2000
I was not expecting anything good at all when I saw this movie, but I was surprised to discover it was a decent movie. The characters were generally believable and the plot was pretty interesting. Under no circumstances can you be expecting a deep and meaningful movie here, but it was fun and just a good time. It had some truly funny moments and Melissa Joan Hart makes a nice big screen debut which may help her get a career going past Sabrina the Teenage Witch. The ending is the only part of the movie that suffers. I won't give it away, but it is a fitting end to the movie.

A brilliantly acted and tragic film
10 June 2000
"Snow Falling on Cedars" is a beautiful film, filled with gorgeous shots and haunting music. Although the plot sometimes is slow, it has a weight that is carried very well. Rarely have I seen a movie in which the entire cast plays their character perfectly, but this is one of them. The story is basically what one might expect after watching the first quarter of it, but it is shown in an original way that actually helps to make the somewhat predictable turn of events more appealing and interesting.

A sloppy piece of hilarious garbage
2 April 2000
Rarely is there a movie so awful and horrendous that you find yourself laughing. Usually you find yourself asking why you paid the eight bucks, but this was not the case. I had a great time at The Skulls, no thanks to the movie. I had to actually WORK in order to make it fun by commenting on how bad the acting, dialogue, and direction was. I have never seen a drama where when a character is crying or gets incredibly emotional over something the whole audience burst out laughing. I can't remember a movie in the last year that has made me laugh as hard as this one. Move over There's Something About Mary, there's a new comedy in town.

A very funny lighthearted romance
10 October 1999
I was lucky enough to see this film at the Savannah Independent Film and Video festival held at SCAD. The movie was truly funny, something most movies with mega-buck budgets and huge names usually fail to accomplish, as well as the fact that this movie was truly entertaining. The lead actress was amazing, and the film really carried its own weight. In some romantic comedies, you find yourself being bored because you've seen this movie 20 times before. You have seen this one 20 times before, but its still enjoyable because its so well done.

The best movie I have ever seen
5 October 1999
Movies seem to constantly be striving to create characters that not only serve as tools to complete the desired actions, but are actually real. This movie actually does this. It is so easy to show something from one perfective, to make someone the bad guy and place all the blame on them, but this is not the case in this movie. Everyone is the blame and nobody is. In fact, you even wonder if there is cause to place blame. If what has happened is even a bad thing, or if it is in fact a beautiful and necessary thing.

A deep yet brutal look at our culture
22 September 1999
This movie is not for people who get sick easily. The language is foul and the movie is quite violent and sexual. The reason I would not recommend this movie to everyone is not because of its message or meaning, but because of the very unique and to some, disturbing ways that this meaning is expressed. The message of the film is quite extraordinary. It really is amazing how we feel more compassion for animals than our fellow humans. There are just so many different abstractions in this movie, it is definitely entertaining, but you must have an open mind to truly appreciate it. And yes, it is quite hilarious when looked at in the right way, but this is most DEFINITELY not a movie for everyone.

An amazing movie that leaves the audience thinking.
12 September 1999
I must say that this movie is one of the best I have seen in a long time. It totally engrosses you in the film's plot, and is suprisingly uplifting rather than the depressing sort of feel the previews give the movie. Rather than a horror film, this movie is more of a drama. From start the finish, the slowest moments still keep you interested and wondering what is going to happen next. It has been compared to The Exorcist, but other than priests being featured in the movie, they films are nothing alike. The one thing that truly makes this movie unique is how it makes you think. It seems in the brainless world of Hollywood today, movies are an escape from thinking. It is not often that there is a movie that makes you examine your life and look at your beliefs. This is not an anti-God movie at all, so if you are Catholic or any other religion, as long as you keep a slightly open mind, this is a movie you should really enjoy.

not a bad movie
23 August 1999
I am suprised that so many people thought this movie was so bad. The movie was not made to be taken seriously. It is just a hypothetical situation to show us how far popularity has gone these days and warning us not to take it too seriously. The movie does have slightly off parts, but on the whole is well done. If you go to it with an open mind, you should enjoy it.
