Music from Another Room (1998)
It was fate.
It was fate that I was flipping through the channels and came upon this movie. There are some movies that have their flaws, but still leave you with a smile. This is surely one of them. Jude Law (Danny), with his charming good looks and sweet British accent, shines in this movie. It's a shame that this movie did not make theaters. He was a delight to watch. Jennifer Tilly (Nina) is such a talented actress, and she too was great. Music From Another Room is about a little boy (Danny) that aids in the delivery of a baby girl (Anna). 25 years later, they cross paths again. Danny instantly falls for Anna, but Anna is already engaged to Eric (rich guy). While getting to know Anna, he also gets to know her family: Nina (blind sister who is afraid of the world), Karen (cynical sister), Billy (rude brother that constantly cheats on his wife Irene), and her parents Richard (does not believe in love) and Grace (a little crazy). The songs "Truly, Madly, Deeply" by Savage Garden and "Day after Day" by Julian Lennon were perfect for this movie. If you enjoy light-hearted movies that make you laugh and cry, this is the movie. I love this movie. I give it 10 stars.
The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999)
I left with chills down my spine.
WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS
I was 13 years old when I saw this movie. I really was not interested in seeing this movie, and I thought I would leave the theater unsatisfied. The movie was probably too adult for me; nonetheless I was still glued to my seat. Besides the beautiful scenery of Italy and the attractive cast, I believe this to be a truly compelling movie. When Tom Ripley meets the elusive Dickey Greenleaf, he is treated by Dickey as a best friend. Tom feels a strong attraction towards Dickey. When Dickey catches on to Tom's advances, he begins to ignore Tom. Out of anger and jealousy, Tom murders Dickey. The rest of the movie is about how he cunningly covers his tracks. I agree that the ending was somewhat peculiar and abrupt. I still left the theater with chills down my spine.
I give it a 9 out of 10 stars.
Undressed (1999)
Trashy but Addicting
Yup. This show is full of all kinds of sexual behaviour. The plots are shallow too. But this show is sooooooooooooooo addicting!! It has funny sexual humor. You just keep wanting to find out what's gonna happen next. If you just wanna be entertained but not moved in any way, this is the show. It's no "Dawson's Creek" but it's still entertainment!
Disturbing Behavior (1998)
Just Another Poorly Done Horror Flick
I saw this movie because it seemed like a good plot, I'm a horror fan, and I always take time to watch the movies of Dawson's Creek stars. It was a good idea to make a film about teens being brain-washed but I guess the producers assumed that since Katie Holmes was in the movie there was no need to actually put some work into the script.
The actors, leaving out Nick Stahl, were lacking. James Marsden could have done better but it could have just been that the dialogue was poorly written. Who knows. Katie Holmes' bad girl act made her just seem like a bratty little tag-along.
And of course they had to add some nudity to the flick just to make it "perfect". The showing of the girl's chest wasn't at all necessary.
All in all, it was just a typical teen horror flick that was sloppily made. All pretty much done was taking a spookie urban legend, throw in some nudity, some running around into nowhere, an extremely popular star, and making a happy ending with a little corny twist at the end... BOOM... you just got yourself a poorly done teen flick. Rent The Faculty instead unless you are partial to Katie Holmes. I give this movie a 3/10 stars.
Dawson's Creek (1998)
Wonderful Show
This show is a truly wonderful piece of work. Perhaps the plots aren't fully realistic since this is taking place in a small, supposedly mundane town. But the emotions are real. The feelings are there. The characters are truly realistic.
Dawson Leery, the intelligent, sensitive only child. After having a picture perfect life for the last 15 years he suddenly spirals in a world of problems with the breakup of his ,once, romantic parents and his on and off relationships with his best friend Joey.
Joey Potter, the cocky, sarcastic, tomboy. She's had many family problems plus the many love troubles with her best friend/boyfriend/ex-boyfriend.She is a confused girl who really doesn't know what she wants.
Jen Lindley, the NYC "wild child". She is the most misunderstood character. It goes deeper than just the plain bad girl. She is a depressed girl who feels unloved because of her constant bickering with the only family she has - her Christian grandma who is firm in her beliefs, while Jen is an atheist.
Pacey Witter, the guy who is always put down by his father and brother. He figures that he can't erase 15 years of failure in his father's eyes so he cares less about his life, much less his grades.
Andie McPhee, the super hyper chatty girl who is also Pacey's love interest. I admire her character because even though she has so many family burdens she commits herself to a relationship with Pacey and changes his life for the better.
And finally there is Jack McPhee, Andie's twin brother. He is a shy "in his own little world" kind of guy. With his family burdens he also has the problem of "coming out of the closet" in a small, gossiping, discriminating town. Although he has the full support of his sister he is depressed because he doesn't have any support from his faraway father.
I give Dawson's Creek 10 stars.
