Father Ted: The Plague (1996)
Season 2, Episode 6
10/10
water - feck!
7 June 2006
One of the very best of this sublime series.

Father Ted is to my mind the finest comedy produced in the British Isles since probably Fawlty Towers. The stand-out character for me is Father Jack and he gets much to do and say in this. It also has Len Brennan, which is a plus.

The plot revolves around Jack's nocturnal perambulation and the offence caused (eldery priests should not roam naked at night), Dougal's new pet and it's renowned breeding habits and Len's rabbit phobia.

Dougal has fun finding a good name and decides on 'Father Jack Hackett'. Jack's response when offered water to drink is priceless.

Pure laughter.

Stan (2006 TV Movie)
9/10
excellent
7 June 2006
I have just finished watching the repeat on BBC4 and I finished with a mixture of tears and laughter. Jim Norton (Bishop Len Brennan from the wonderful Father Ted) was very convincing as Stan although I did notice his Irish accent. The actor playing the younger Stan was just about perfect.

I have been a fan for more years than I care to remember and the whole thing rang very true, even the last scene with someone ringing him up and being invited over. How many great stars kept their entry in the phone book.

I heard some of it on Radio 4 last year and was delighted to see that it would be redone for TV and I was not disappointed.

Please don't let Hollywood anywhere near this, just show this little Gem

Hi-de-Hi! (1980–1988)
Gets better each time

When this series first started, I freely admit I was not a fan. On first view, it was not up to their shining glory that is Dads Army. On the other hand, nothing is. I first started to 'got it' with the horse on a horse scene. I laughed and laughed. Since then, it has appeared on repeats and channels like UK Gold. The performance of Simon Cadell is outstanding. Every cast member fits their role like a glove. It grows on one and all I can say is, Well Done Jimmy Perry and David Croft.

Silly but also very funny
4 August 1999
This is probably my all time fav. L&H short. right from the start with the call of 'Fresh Fish' (toot), this is a 'hoot'. As always, Stan has an idea this time expressed as only Stan can. 'If we had a boat .....'. The bit that makes me howl is when Olly is painting the rudder and Stan is scrubbing the deck and finds the tiller in the way. The pause before 'what did you put that stuff on your face for' is agony!. As for Stan's method of getting his head out from behind the mast... See this one now.
