Mission to Mars (2000)
There are spoilers in this review (if that is possible)
I saw this movie a couple of days ago. I love movies and I am a rabid movie fan, but I rewound the tape with a numb feeling. I came here and I was glad to see words like empty and hallow in other reviews. I love Gary and Tim. They are great actors. I also thought this movie gave the most realistic portrayal of the Mars landscape ever caught on film. I also like the way that the technology portrayed in the move was not over done. They tried to stay with the story, which unfortunately was not there.
My biggest complaint against this movie (here is the spoiler) the scene where Tim Robbins died was terribly over done. To have him die in such a terrible way right in front of his wife was uncalled for. I know that the director was trying to get some emotion out of his audience, but I didn't like this.
The ending, what is left to be said. Weak to say the least.
Tae-Bo Workout: Advanced (1999)
The best work out ever
My wife got this set of three Tae Bo tapes a few months back. She started doing them and talked me into trying them as well. We worked through the 8 minute workout to the Basic and we are know working on the Advanced level. That is the best work out since I was in Football in High school. I worked out regularly in College and off and on while in Seminary, but I must say that I am in the best shape I have been in for years by doing this tape.
You are the man, Billy!!
Entrapment (1999)
...Decent
This review may be considered a spoiler.
My wife and I rented this movie last night and I have to admit that I enjoyed it. I honestly did not see the twist at the end coming. I wasn't sure who was working against who, but I did not expect it to turn out the way it did.
Seeing Catherine Zeta-Jones bending to get under the yarn in the practice session was worth renting the movie to see.
Booty Call (1997)
Not that funny
I watched this movie and it really isn't that funny. The plot, aside from being repetitive, is not original. It is full of sexual innuendo that just gets old. The only redeeming quality of this film is the scene where Vivica A. Fox bends over the pool table. Give me that 4 seconds and keep the rest of this movie.
Batman (1989)
Spectacular...
I remember buying this game from a Warner Brother's catalogue in 1989. I absolutely loved this game. It is unquestionably the best game released for the NES. I wish my NES still worked because I would still be playing this game. Batman had his arsenal of weapons he is famous for. The game had a good dark feel, much like the incredible original Batman movie.
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Unbelievably excellent
This was a spectacular movie. I don't usually like movies of the horror genre, but my wife wanted to see it. Since Bruce Willis was in it, I gave it a try. It was scary without being over the edge. It wasn't gory or one of those stupid 80's slasher movies. This is one of the most intelligent movies made. Haley Joel Osment is the greatest child actor I have ever seen. He did not get fake and was very convincing. I did not feel that he was reading from a script to me. This movie would have been much less without him. While I do like Bruce Willis' over the edge action movies, I also thought that he was excellent in this movie. The conversation between Haley Joel Osment and Bruce Willis was so real. They were on an equal plane.
The end of this movie was the greatest and most unexpected twist of all time. I want to see this movie again now that I know what the end is because thinking back, I realize there were many hints dropped to what the end would be that made sense as I was driving home.
An absolute must see.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Just Excellent
This movie was spectacular. The special effects were amazing. Many of the critics I have read and heard about say this movie lacks character development. This what all the critics whine about when they can't find anything wrong with the movie. The final light saber duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul is one of the best fight scenes ever captured on the big screen. This movie was sensational and it did live up to the hype, and as you know, there was a lot of hype to live up to. If you didn't like this movie, get a life.
Teen Wolf Too (1987)
Not the greatest movie, but remember who it is targeting
I haven't read too many good reviews of this movie and I think that is because the reviewers are forgetting the point to this movie. This movie was not targeting adults. I would assume that this movie is directed to kids who are about Junior High age. A good example of this is the scene toward the beginning in the dance hall. The president of the university comes up to Todd, who is his pride and joy because he is going to turn the boxing program around because of Todd's super-hero type skills. What is the first thing that the president offers to Todd? A gorgeous blonde who he had already met. After some polite conversation, he grabs her butt, which triggers the wolf to come out of him. Think back to when you were in Junior High. Didn't you want to be a super-hero type to come in and be a successful athlete and grab the butts of beautiful women?
Like I said, this isn't the greatest movie ever, but I am sure that in 1987, it did have it's audience.
