Peacemakers (2003)
Not bad, but not great
I watched the pilot of this western and it held my interest throughout. Tom Berenger's portrayal of Marshal Jerad Stone carries the show, with little help from his supporting cast or writers.
Think CSI as a western, and you have an idea of what this show is about. The disappointing plot in the pilot, however, was very predictable and less than exciting than expected for the premise of the show. Hopefully they can throw more twists into the mix on future episodes.
Bruce Almighty (2003)
Standard Jim Carrey
Jim Carrey does a good job as usual in this movie with his over-the-top physical brand of humor. If your a Jim Carrey fan, this movie won't disappoint. As in most of his previous films, the film is a vehicle for Jim Carrey's comedy, using a weak story line as a backdrop and delivery tool. Basically, this is a romantic comedy, with Carrey and Jennifer Aston the principals.
Morgan Freeman plays a decent part as God, but not as thoughtful as George Burns in "Oh God".
Once the movie starts to try set up it's "message", it becomes very predictable, approaching boring.
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
No laughs here
It is surprising that the amount of star talent in this movie cannot make it work. Gene Hackman gives it a great try, but the laughs are far and few between. While the premise is good, the movie relies on a lot of sight gags and the placement of actors outside their realm. It all comes out really contrived, and you may get one or two smiles, but no laughs. After an hour of waiting for the movie to settle in, you will be looking at your watch the rest of the way.
