Succession (2018)
I May be the last one to see this Series - Sad, Funny ,Realistic
I will just say that I tuned in to this because there was so much chatter about it. Many previous Titans of business movies and Series have gone before it. I had clicked on it about a year ago and did not continue once I saw the subject matter, I am however glad I binge watched it for 4 days. I was familiar with the main character actor Brian Cox from so many previous roles as a character actor. I have never seen him in better form in this late career performance. The other stars were an introduction and a revelation to me. The many attempts to take control was just about enough ...if not too much, Excellent.
The Island (2005)
Action and Sci Fi good
There is character development of our main characters in the beginning and the introduction to their super modern world is done well. There is foreshadowing to give you hints of things to come.
This is an interesting plot that does stretch the imagination regarding the level to which evil scientists could rise in exploiting humanity. Certainly there is a remote possibility. The payoff comes when they hit the road the action is just splendid and goes on and on. The best series of car crashes I have ever seen. The quality actors mixed with a clever plot and fantastic action make this one worth the price of the rental. I for one..bought this DVD. Scarlett more mature now..very sexy in this movie.
First Yank Into Tokyo (1945)
This film had some ridiculous comments and an immature slant to the Japanese
This film is almost camp in its sophomoric racism. As a member of a minority that has also experienced this kind of dehumanization at a time when this was not at all uncommon I think that this movie has value as an example of what generations ..even my own daughter will never believe unless they see it. I think we all need these movies in their uncut form as a reminder (embarrassing though it is to the filmmakers) of how dumb we can get with these kinds of issues. I speak as a minority and as a fellow brother to all of you reading this. This is not shocking and the Japanese I am sure have the self confidence (as does my minority group) to point at this as a laughable example of white racism in its most childish form. It does not inspire hate for the whites who made it ...it inspires incredulity and empathy in me personally because it is truly embarrassing. I am sure it is the whites who would most like to eradicate this film and forget they (or the few who believed this) ever exhibited this kind of insipid point of view. It was an emotional time. Sometimes emotions make us say and think stupid things. This movie is an example.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Better than I expected
This "Winter spring" encounter was warm and real and had excellent performances by both main characters. Murray was funny, but more restrained and very effective. I have liked Scarlett all three times I have seen her. She is the real deal and generally makes good choices for her movies (lately). After this I will be looking for anything done by Sofia , Scarlett, or Bill.
