Were they trying to make a bad movie?
27 August 2000
This is the absolute worst movie ever made by anyone. The entire movie failed to get so much as a grin from me. The few jokes there were in the movie failed miserably and other than that the movie had not a single good point. The only reason i stayed was that i'm from montreal and thought maybe just maybe they'd show a place i frequent, actually you could almost see my house in one scene which was the highpoint of the movie, and that's pretty damn low for a highpoint. All in all i give this waste of celluloid a 1 out of 10, i'd give it a 0 if i could.

Weak (spoilers)
4 June 2000
Warning: Spoilers
This movie had a few good action scenes, amazingly predictable plot twists, a few gaping plot holes and a sense of unoriginality. I had to wonder how Nyah Hall(Thandie Newton) could get from downtown Sydney to those cliffs so quickly. And this brings up something else, really Cruise is only fighting to save one person, so if she does get infected it'll just be her who dies. Though we're supposed to care for this character, it's just not that evil of a plan when only one person dies. Also according the laws of action movies the girl can't die, so you know she's not going to bite the chimera. I also have to wonder how Cruise can punch somebody once in the head and they're knocked out but he can punch and kick Dougray Scott and even smash his head into a pointy rock, and what's this? Scott is conscious. I don't mind Woo's constant firing and no reloading, but this just got plain ridiculous. Also with the face masks, how obvious was that? It also seems strange that Dougray Scott who is a couple of inches taller than Cruise can play Cruise so well. I thought the movie had a few good action scenes like in the lab and at the storage facility but overall just wasn't very exciting or fun. John Woo should stick to Hong Kong action, like the Killer and Hard Boiled. overall 3/10

Dogfight (1991)

Truly a fantastic movie
31 May 2000
I watched this not knowing what to expect or even what it was about and i must say, i loved it. The performances were great and the setting, style and music were all wonderfully done. I am truly amazed that this film didn't get a wider release, considering how well some truly terrible films do(Titanic). I've got to give this movie a 10, and it's in my top 20 all time. Nice job on this one and i'd like to see more movies like this one.

The Haunting (1999)

Suckastic

This was truly among the worst movies i have ever seen. I just wished i had walked out before i spent two hours there. The story was terrible, as was the acting, and the effects were just awful. Could the computer graphics looked worse, i mean it was pathetic. And even worse the movie wasn't even funny bad, like Maximum Overdrive, it was just boring bad. I think Jan De Bont should be forced to give a refund to everyone who sat throught his movie and should never be allowed to touch a camera again. 1/10, i'd give it a zero if i could.

Gladiator (2000)
Best big budget film in a while (Spoilers)
9 May 2000
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this film. It looked great, the story was good, a few cliches but what can you expect in a big budget film. I found Russell Crowe dying to be something not often found in big budget movies, the hero almost never dies. I thought the acting was great from everyone, well Crowe's wife (who has no speaking part) kinda annoyed me, but that's a small fault. All in all a very solid film, worth seeing. 8/10

LET IT END!!!
16 April 2000
Now, i didn't hate this movie, but it was simply too long and not very funny. I didn't like Stiller or Elfman in it, though Norton is very likable. The movie really overstays its welcome, it drags on and on and on and on. It has a few funny scenes, but i really felt spending two hours for about 5 minutes of laughter is really not worth it. I'd only pick it up on video if there's nothing better. 3/10

Just a whole lot of fun
10 April 2000
This movie has an original concept, a good cast, and an entertaining execution. It's not a great film but it's just plain and simple a lot of fun. Snake does indeed kick ass, though for the perfection of coolness watch Dirty Harry. It is far better than it's sequel, which is actually pretty damn funny. 8/10

It's not bad, but it's not very good
8 April 2000
I walked into this movie expecting a solid old good soldier being framed by the government for something he didn't do movie. I got most of that, it just wasn't that solid. There seemed to characters who just appeared out of nowhere, said a little something then vanished. The movie has pretty good action sequences and i liked Samuel L. Jackson and Tommy Lee Jones. All in all a 6.

Sigh, why was this made?
8 March 2000
I won some tickets for an advance screening of Mission to Mars. Hoping for something new and fresh in the sci-fi gendre. And i was very disappointed. First of all it has quite possibly the worst music used in a movie of all time. Second, the story is weak, it tries to explain too much, while it would have been much better as a simple space movie, it did not need to explain the mystery of life on earth. The explanation they give is done through a poorly done computer effects show. Thirdly, the actors. It has a fine cast just not the right one. Tim Robbins, who i really like, is terrible in his role. Gary Sinise, who i also really like, is also very miscast. Now some of the effects are pretty good, but you just don't get the feeling that it is in space. Noise, didn't 2001: A Space Odyssey show up that noise no noise works very well in space. When they're outside of their ship, it just looks like their standing on a soundstage with a blue screen in the back. Getting back to 2001, the film clearly rips it off, though not quite as much as i expected from the previews. The spaceship first of all, looks pretty much like Odyssey 1, also i found the spacesuit helmets have a quite a strong similarity to those worn by Dave Bowman. The entire subject matter is also close that of 2001, man's place in the universe and how did we get here. 2001 does a great job of handling this, while this simply cooks up some stupid explanation. So all in all a very weak movie, instead save your money for 2001's rerelease on December 31st.
