Scary Movie (2000)
Possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.
The movie sucks. Not much else can be said. It will have huge appeal to the moron and pervert classes though. Comedy just isn't funny when you try this hard to be funny. All cliche's and worn out jokes.
The Patriot (2000)
Another excellent 'war is hell' movie
Was this movie as good as Braveheart? No, but then how many are? Certainly it is a better effort than such recent 'blockbusters' like the highly over-rated 'American Beauty'. Maybe if they portrayed Benjamin Martin masturbating in the shower more viewers would consider this to be an excellent movie? Nonetheless, it was an excellent movie in many ways and worthy of being seen by every US patriot out there. Some of the comments I've read would indicate the movie touched a nerve with the British. Well, hurray!!! The Imperialistic British empire of that era deserves every bit of it. Some of the strong points of the movie were the excellent performances by some relatively unknown actors like Heath Ledger and Jason Isaacs. I didn't find the movie to be overly melodramatic. I wasn't moved to tears in any parts, mostly I felt anger and outrage. The portrayal of brutality and loss of life and property were very real. Some of the comments I've read would indicate that they think this movie was about a totally fictional period of world history. The losses and tragedies suffered by signers of the Declaration of Independence are well documented, but how many realize that the same happened to most of the 'patriots' of that era during a war fought on their doorsteps amongst former friends and neighbors.
Though some would make light of it, I thought this movie captured the sense of sacrifice that is often necessary to gain and keep liberty. War is hell, but sometimes you must fight.
I thought the movie did a decent job of portraying the inner turmoil of a man in Benjamin Martin's position. Things aren't that bad, I have a family now, all I want to do is live in peace, so why would I want to go to war with the British. Yet he eventually realized that his pacifism only led to more grief and bloodshed. The movie is by no means perfect, but I still rate it a 10 and highly recommend it for all you patriots out there.

Braveheart (1995)
Awesome, timely
An awesome movie showing what it takes to gain and keep freedom from tyranny. Timely in that the same betrayal takes place today at the highest levels keeping slavery alive and well in many places in the world today. Captures the spirit of greed and power amongst those in the ruling classes that makes them willing to sell out their own for wealth and power.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
A MUST SEE movie
I hope that this is the closest that I ever come to combat in my life. Thank God for the men that put their lives on the line to keep us, and the world, free. Hats off to Spielberg for the realism of the combat. That should be enough for all of us to make a promise to ourselves to personally thank as many vets as we can for serving to keep us free. War is no walk in the park, and this movie comes closest to capturing just how close to hell it really is. This movie teaches a lot about sacrifice, courage, heroism, and emotion. Sometimes there are causes greater than our own selves which are worth sacrificing for. A great movie for this era. Too many men of that generation have passed away - this captures a little bit of what was special about that generation. A must see for all kids as soon as they are capable of handling it.
The Color of Friendship (2000)
Excellent movie in many ways.
Though I am by no means a fan of Ron Dellums, the congressman, this movie is excellent in that it shows how love, understanding, and education can overcome hatred, bigotry, and racism. We are all human beings before we are white, black, pink, or yellow. Being a made for TV movie has it's limitations, but I liked this one a lot. Worth watching.
Patch Adams (1998)
Worth watching, but tries too hard.
Overall, this was a pretty good movie. I laughed, I cried, I got a little bored.......Robin Williams is probably the only guy that could pull this role off, but at the same time he gets a little bit annoying. Especially during the overly-dramatic 'speeches'. Wierd thing about Robin Williams - I love him and hate him at the same time. Go figure. Good job by Monica Potter though the romantic pairing of her an Williams is stretching things a little.
