The new smash from Gwyneth Paltrow's Dad!
13 September 2000
Andre Braugher is in this movie. That alone should convince you to see it. Andre Braugher! The guy who was in Homicide!

Aside from that, Paul Giamatti (Big Mamma's House... maybe that's not the best thing he could be credited with), Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love *Best Actress 1998*), Maria Bello (Coyote Ugly), and Huey Lewis (The helicopter pilot in the beginning of Sphere) star in this. The whole movie revolves around the characters wanting to compete in a national karaoke competition (of course, in Omaha), showing how each arrives, why each does it and blah blah blah. Sometimes you have to wonder if there could be any other way to follow characters into a competition.

The direction is ok and the acting is better than fair. It's a date movie, and it is worth seeing. Were not exactly breaking new ground here, but somethings, no matter how many times they are re-made, re-written, or re-wrapped into a new movie, they still remain enjoyable. Hopefully they won't release a CD with all the actors singing on it. Don't get me wrong, they are not bad, but it's just that whenever TV stars and movie stars release there own CD's... they tend to... suck.

Anyhow, good movie, worth seeing.

Pwew... what reeks?

There are many things that suck in this world. Like old popcorn, New Coke, crime, and Kathy Lee Gifford. And now, we add to that list "The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie. Not only does it suck, but it.... damn, it just sucks. Don't see it, instead rent "The Shawshank Redemption"

Yes little John, it does suck

I know. You think it's good. But it's not. Ebert knew what he was talking about. He didn't get. I didn't get it. There is really nothing to get. There is no deep metaphor involved, there is no meaning. It's just crap that happens to have Robert De Niro. Terry Gilliam wasn't in his right mind when he made it. So don't watch it.

Waters is still twisted
8 July 2000
Cecil B. DeMented has everything you could want in a Waters movie. It's demented, off the wall, and well... I would guess unique is the word I'd like to use, but it doesn't do much justice for Waters.

Stephen Dorff once again does a great job acting, as does Griffith and Witt. Look for Ricki Lake in this once, who hasn't been in a Waters film since 1994 with Serial Mom (another John Waters classic)

I've been a Waters fan ever since I found out he was my friends uncle, and I have to say this is one of the better Waters film. True, there is no Devine to complete it, but nothings perfect.

I won't say that this film could hold water against something like "The Shawshank Redemption" or "The Godfather" but it is something worth seeing in the theaters if you get a chance.

Oh, and bring someone with you, that way you won't be that loser who watches a movie by themselves.
