Si sos brujo: una historia de tango (2005)
"Si Sos Brujo" is a triumph of an idea over all obstacles
This is a moving documentary following the quest of Ignacio, a young Argentine musician who races to find legendary maestros from tango's golden age (now men in their eighties) in order to save the almost lost oral transmission of style before the secrets of the real tango are gone forever.
Si Sos Brujo follows this dream to create a tango orchestra school, and the relationship between its founder, the young musicians participating in the first group of students, and the 87 years old maestro he calls out of retirement to conduct it: the mythic violinist, composer, and bandoneon player Emilio Balcarce.
Caroline Neal first feature-length film shows a promising career as filmmaker. The story follows the illusions of these musicians with a simple, yet truthful recording. You see the cameras, the artifacts, the production. Even then, the movie shows that no matter what lack of resources people encounter, their creativity is stimulate to achieve even the most difficult endeavors.
O Auto da Compadecida (2000)
the Brazilian Terry Gilliam
It is amazing how, from the very beginning of this movie, you notice the influence that Terry Gilliam has had on this Brazilian director. The movie has the twists and craziness you would expect of "Adventures of Baron Munchausen", but from the third world, portraying incredible well the way people try to survive where there is not much for them anyway. "O Auto da Compadecida" is definitely a very good movie, with talented actors and unexpected plot. Must-see.
The Joy Luck Club (1993)
incredible emotive
What to say of a movie that went so deep in my heart, with characters so charming and well played. It will open doors in your soul that mustn't remained shut. The Joy Luck Club should have had more success because it really deserves it.
Esperando la carroza (1985)
You will never laugh so much
If you want to know about people behavior in Buenos Aires, specially from middle class, with lots of acid critics to the society and its traditions, this is the best movie to watch. Here you'll find amazing actors in a really funny story and if you pay attention beyond the details you can recognize many things that argentineans inherit from their close ancestors: italians and spanish immigrants as well.
