Must see this movie
15 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The opening scene of this film is one of those that will forever remain in the memory of lovers of the seventh art! Engaging, magnificently made by one of the masters of cinematography (Nicolas Bolduc). The story, known to many, whether through books or cinema, continues to arouse the interest of those who are just looking for fun for a few hours. Safe direction by Martin Bourboulon, facilitated by the stellar cast, whose highlights are Eva Green, Vicent Cassel, Pio Marmaï and surprise: François Civil. Alternating comedy and drama, which only the French know how to do, the relatively long film disconnects us from time and holds our attention until the last scene, which left me perplexed, as I have seen countless films! Sensational! When I realized it, it was already late in the morning... In my opinion, it is a film that should be seen and reviewed. Certainly one of the best releases this year (2023), so poor in premieres, to the point of having to resort to the old films on video cassette that I still have.

On a scale of 1 (no comments) to 10 (masterpiece), my vote is 9 (excellent).

Light and refreshing movie
29 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Mariano Vera was really inspired when he wrote this script! A woman who becomes an ex of a guy who has been presenting a program with the same format for seven years... From this relationship a son (?) is born from then on and after the (surprising) death of the woman begins a hunts for the kid's real father (by the way: very intelligent, unlike the guy...). Director Winograd manages to extract from the cast (emphasis on Leonardo Sbaraglia representing the sentimental - David Samarás 'El Griego'). Another interpretation worthy of mention is that of the actress born in Uruguay - Natalia Oreiro - playing the extroverted Silvina Lasarte. Light Argentine comedy with an agile rhythm and surprising ending. A film suitable for anyone looking for something to spend almost two hours away from this real and increasingly senseless world. My rating is : 9 (excellent).

A Must Movie to See
24 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen a plot as original as this one in a long time! In addition, the film has a spectacular editing: agile, surgical that "holds" the viewer's attention from beginning to end! And the ending (surprising) even for me who's seen tens of thousands of films... Under the direction of Albert Dupontel the cast "reacts" wonderfully to what is asked of them.

Christophe Pinel (editing) is one of those responsible for quoting the film (note ten) . Virginie Efira, Albert Dupontel (as an actor) is impeccable. In fact, some years ago, when Marlon Brando was alive, he declared in a magazine that directing and acting at the same time was as difficult as shaving without a mirror... (even more like a razor - I add - ). The "rest" of the cast goes in the same direction (great performances). As for the story I won't add anything in order not to "break the magic". To finish: the decoration of the set, in charge of Philippe Cord'homme, is surprisingly great. My rating is 10 (Masterpiece) .

Surprise! ...
20 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The opening scene of this film is surprising: it was thought to be a film of ultra violence... Screen goes dark... Next scene: a very interesting dialogue between the two main characters, and soon after, a third one enters the scene character, in quick appearance... Then you can see that it's a comedy between pseudo thieves, beyond clumsy... This opening scene is in a restaurant called Ol'South Pancake House, similar to so many other Cafeterias in the States. .. Several surprises are in the course of the film, for example: another pseudo thief (Darcy played by Eleanore Pienta - masterful interpretation) found in the mansion of the current fiancé of one of the pseudo thieves (Leo played magnificently by Will Rogers). Cinematography (Nathan Smith) great and excellent editing by Tim Fender.

Excellent movie - and here's one more note: exact time for the writers, producers and especially the director (Jason Headley) to deliver the "message"... My vote is 9 on a scale of 1 to 10.

It is a very good movie
14 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Quinn Shepard directs this comedy with a sense of time rarely seen in recent times! The film is based on the exceptional actress Zoey Deutch. Pure sympathy, allied to his innate ability to visually transform from laughter to seriousness. Mia Isaac and Dylan O'Brien in the background follow the fast pace imposed by the director. The camera (Robby Baumgartner)/editing (Mollie Goldstein) are also celluloid's strong points. As for the plot, it is a faithful mirror of most people who cannot live without their cell phone, from when they wake up to when they are about to sleep... By the way, someone who watched the movie with me said: "I finally saw a movie in which the person sleeps with the cell phone on and when he wakes up, it has no charge!"... In fact, these people are more connected on social networks and the like than on their problems in real life, be they financial, health and mostly work! A movie worth the time. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is (no comment) and 10 is masterpiece, my vote is 7 (very good)

Binoche what a great actress
30 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Juliette Binoche. What remains do "talk" about her? Almost anything! I Have folowed this actress's career since her first film. In one of my comments, posted on IMDB, I wrote that "when she enters the scene(...) she forgets that she is Juliette and fully embodies the character , etc...etc..." Here's another one of her magnificient performances. Look when she looks at the camera: close-up and her eyes (as if interrogating the psychiastrist but really interrogating the spectator) : "I'm still pretty?" Well, at this point I should talk loudly to my tv screen: You are like an expensive wine: the older you are, the tastier you are. Now about this movie: this is one of most beautiful that I watched in this year. It's wonderful, fully with changes...I was surprised! Me who have watched over 50.000 since I was 10 years old ! The editing by Stephanie Pereira is fundamental for the composition of the film. Nicole Garcia and François Civil are are stupendous and these interpretations are due to the safe hand of Safy Nebbou.

The story itself reveals everything I learned as a former medical student, especially when I read Freud's complete works in the medical school library. Here's a summary of it : (as I understand what Sigmund wrote: lie to everyone, but don't lie to yourself. If you do this, you will generate conflicts in your mind).

Quotation: on a scale of 1 to 10 my rating is 10 (Masterpiece).

Must see movies for learning...
18 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Boring, repetitive, absolutely bland, eschatological, that's why I rate this series a 3. Not because comedians insist on eschatology, when there are plenty of other real-life situations that can be explored. An example? Once again I remember Jerry Lewis' films in which situations were exposed, some of them for the complete absurdity (in one of the films, the character is assigned to arrange chairs in a cinema by the boss, just with the intention of dismissing him... Minutes then the character appears and says that the task is over, to the astonishment of the boss... Writers: Watch and review those movies to learn how to make a comedy.

Is it a comedy?
19 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After watching the end of this series, I confirmed my opinion already expressed in a previous comment: who said that Melissa McArthy is a comedian? Well I said that certainly never watched Jerry Lewis. Melissa is not a comedian, she is not an actress, she is not intelligent and I will stop here because I don't intend to risk starting swearing. This series is definitely one of the worst I've ever watched. By the way: I've watched over 60,000 movies/series in my life. Rating: 1 star, this is because IMDB does not provide negative rating.

Almost two hours of visual pleasure
29 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Can't you leave the house because of Covid? Here's a way to spend almost two hours in the most pleasant way possible: Watch this movie! I was really surprised to see this film. The Director who is also an actor Nick Hurran leads the cast with steady hands and giving a suggestion here and there in the editing of the film, making the film agile, like few I've seen. The story revolves around a bachelor who lives in bitterness at having lost the opportunity to dance and maybe start dating a girl from elementary school. Years later he finds her again (married to a husband - mayor of the small town - who mistreats her in every possible way, including treachery, and outlines a plan for them to live in another country, far from that "hell". Alfred Molina, in the role of Boris Plots and Brenda Blethyn in the role of Betty Rhys-Jones are impeccable in this film, closely followed by Walken, representing the hilarious undertaker Frank Featherbed, as well as the famous Lee Evans, in the role of Delbert Butterfiel. Finally, Naomi Watts (Meredith Mainwaring, the mayor's mistress) in the fullness of her Balzak beauty, graces the film. On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is 10 (Masterpiece).

if you didn't want to be famous, why was it to be an actress?
1 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Until the 3/4 of the film, I confess that I made a tremendous effort not to sleep! First of all, I never liked musicals, since I started going to movie theaters, back in the 1950s. I always preferred action movies (eg: Rififi Chez Les Hommes,The Magnificant Seven (1960) or those that transmissed messages that I kept in mind (eg : Belle de Jour, and all the films by Inger Bergmann). "I don't like to be famous, I want to be an anonymous carpenter", whining the character Candy to his substitute Paula, both characters played by Drew Barrymore, here surely in one of his worst interpretations, solely and exclusively Jamie Babbit's fault, which I think is a director from mediocre to terrible. Story? It is not worth commenting on, I am left only for the excellent performance of Ellie Kemper, who manages to give life to Jenna Jones, who is the fulcrum of the film. Kemper with his "liveliness" manages to overcome Babbit's "interpretive orders". Highlight for the excellent cinematography of Eric Moynier, and the edition of Patrick Colman that prevented me from sleeping soundly in the 3/4 of the film and kept me final in the final minutes of "Film (?)" On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is: 2 (terrible).

I'S always to remember
21 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Another fantastic interpretation of this English actor: Eddie Redmayne who is gradually establishing himself as a participant in the English actors' Hall of Fame, in which Richard Burton and so many others appear who, for the sake of space, I fail to mention! Sasha Cohen, in my opinion follows behind the interpretation, punctuating, and taken by the director Aaron Sorkin, lets the whole revolt / idealism / almost taken to the extreme by the impossibility of changing the status quo, of a system that he believes not to be ideal not just for your country of birth, like any country in the world. And why not mention Frank Langella yet? Perfect in the role of Judge Julius Hoffman! Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, superb in the role of the prisoner, and who does not remain silent before an authority that is just there, as if he were a delegate from an old western town in the 1800s, where the law that really prevailed was this one delegate! The film has a didactic aspect: it is worth seeing because many of the young people do not know what really happened in the USA between 1960/1970, unlike the one who writes these words, which I followed in detail in the Brazilian newspapers the Vietnam War! Film with direction, cinematography, cast, beyond my expectations! On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is 10

If you like country music, you must see
4 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For those who like country (it's my case, since I heard the genre) this film is a must-to-see. The plot of the film is well elaborated and the viewer follows the film with growing interest. Rose Lynn, the main character of the film, played by Jessie Buckley, gives "life" to something that could seem ordinary: a human being, completely, anonymous, who dreams of "shining" for the rest of the world. Julie Walters, magnificent, in the role of Marion, whose facial nuances, ranging from surprise to extreme irritation, should surely win an Oscar, in? Also noteworthy is Sophie Okonedo, in the role of Susannah, followed by Craig Parkinson (Alan). And the end? Magnificent scene in which the camera, initially fixed on Rose's face, recedes until we contemplate the theater, in all its splendor. So as not to go too long: my vote is 10 (masterpiece).

Wonderful... just wonderful
27 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Maturity is good for certain things that exist. Examples: apple, pears, avocado, etc ... For Fernando Meirelles did extremely well. His direction here in this movie is safe and much better when he made the hideous "City of God" (free me ...). The film has to be seen not for its religious aspect, but from the philosophical point of view. After all, in dialectics, there is the pro and con, which the philosopher establishes for himself, until he reaches his final conclusion. As for cinematography is simply superb, knowing César Charlone take all of the beauty of the Sistine Chapel, landmark of the genius of Michael Angelo ... Interpretations: geniuses (again I invoke maturity to see how they grew up in the art of acting) Anthony Hoppings and Jonathan Price, both of them! Beautiful movie that should be seen by all those who have the Seventh Art as their supreme fun ... On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is 10 (Masterpiece).

Fat woman stumbles and falls .... messy fat woman stumbles and falls ... If this scene were just once in the movie, come on ... it would be funny ... But who says Rebel Wilson is funny? Before that: she's not funny she's ridiculous! By the way this whole movie is extremely ridiculous ... I saw it from beginning to end without even smiling! Enough! I will stay here. My quote for this "thing" is 1.

Infinite blood
18 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The beginning of the movie is until reasonable. The busilis is when the series of unlikely things begins. To name just one: we have about 5 liters of blood in the body. So can a person bleeding at vital points in the body catch his breath? (It is the hemoglobin that carries oxygen throughout the body). Wait: I think I discovered the mystery: Both father and daughter carried a stock of blood hidden in their clothing. Hollywood screenwriters: stop writing crap! Or, write it down and then throw it away instead of taking it to the screen. On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is 1 (very bad)

Waste of time
21 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is surely the most boring, tedious, tiresome, plodding, insipid, monotonous, dry as dust I've ever seen! If director Noah Baumbach, who is also the writer of this pseudo comedy, intended to follow the fast, brilliant, clever pace of Woody Allen's films, he failed, and failed disastrously! What a waste of talent from an actress like Emma Thompson! Dustin Hoffman is simply ridiculous! Since the beginning of the "movie (?), the dialogues, without foot or head, already foresee the **** that will unfold! These dialogues look like two children in kindergarten, in which one make a question: How old are you? and the other answers: my name is nobody! At the end, I said this loud voice : Wow! At last the end! A word of advice: Do something other than watch this movie: After all, time is a precious thing in your life. On a scale from 1 to 10, my grade is 1, since there is no quote for zero!

A City desappering?
18 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Marina Seresesky offers us this unforeseen comedy set in a small town in Spain that struggles to survive as all houses are for sale or for rent due to almost all residents have moved to other cities in Spain, especially Madrid. . Teresa (Carmen Machi) impresses us with her interpretation that goes from anger to sweetness, as if by magic. Pepón Nieto (Jaime) is hilarious as the homosexual who finally "comes out of the closet" ... Kiti Mánver (Encarnita), followed by Jon Kortajarena (Guiri) follow Seresesky's orders to the letter, giving us a light and easy comedy to watch. On a scale of 1 to ten, my vote is: 6 (good)

17 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Indian movies are rare here in Brazil. So it was with a pleasant surprise that House Arrest directed by Samit Basu, in his seventh art debut, I watched this masterfully conducted comedy with a superb rendition of Ali Fazal. The opening scene in which Karan (Ali Fazal) appears on the balcony of his apartment monologizing about what to do on Monday is sure to be marked in the memory of those who watch this film. Pinky (Barkha Singn) appears on the scene like lightning in a serene night sky, accompanied by her gigantic bodyguard ... Saira (Shriya Pilgaonkar) with her Indian woman beauty completes this light comedy, great to watch on a Sunday. remembering that we will have to work the next day ... 28 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It is with great sadness that I comment on this movie! What a waste of talent! Audrey Tautou whose interpretations I joyfully recall here in this "comedy (?)" ,is pathetic! The director / actor (Edouard Baer) of this grotesque work, which is supposed to make everybody laugh should never get bringing their vision to reality. ! Surely one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life! incidentally the character with a bouquet of roses is one of the most ridiculous I've ever seen in this last thirty years I've been watch movies, be french,, english, german, russian and so forth. Not worth spending time following commenting! ... In a scale from 1 to ten I vote 1 , only because there is no zero for users vote...

Beautiful is the title and this movie
10 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In 1978 I traveled to several European countries. In England I stayed in a 3 star hotel (I don't remember the name) on a street whose houses resembled the "decor" of this movie, directed by Simon Aboud. Basically it is a fairy tale. There, the fictional time is in charge of making a game that will only end with a death, inevitable end of all of us. By the way, in the initial scene a baby appears, foreseeing what will unfold. The highlight is Jessica Brown Findlay's interpretation whose nuances of looking (I don't know how many times Simon Aboud has asked to repeat the scenes) range from irony to incredulity. Tom Wilkinson is superb in his role as a grouchy landlord (which in his end of the movie, or in the middle of the movie, we see that loved so much). The rest of the cast behaves as expected when directed by a director of Simon. Film that should be seen and reviewed by all those who seek an oasis in the fantasy world, away from this real, chaotic, violent world. On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is 10 (masterpiece).

Poor comedy (?)
18 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Alex Sharp has an interpretation full of surprises as a bankrupt application developer. The surprise is that almost of the end of the movie he turns out to be another of the tricksters and will be part of the trio composed by Anne Hathaway (medium interpretation) and Rebel Wilson (uncomfortable in the role of Penny Rust. Incidentally, her best scenes are those in her face appears in "close up"). By the hands of director Chris Addison, the cast takes the movie in "slow motion, let's say that..." with little chance for the audience to laugh, as in those wonderful "ancient" movies starred by Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin and directed by Frank Tashlin. Highlights for cinematography of Michael Coulter mainly in those wonderful views of the French icons (beaches, casinos). On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is: 3 (soft)

13 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Leticia Dolera, surely, must be an eschatological one.I had never seen a movie so disgusting, so full of free obscenity, like this pseudo movie! What a waste of time, spending almost 2 hours watching this "thing".If the "director (?)" intention was shocking the audience, she should have watched, rewatched, millions and millions of times Bernardo Bertolucci's beautiful movie "The Last Tango in Paris" with an actor, this one, actor with A capital, Marlon Brando. Pretending to be funny, she plays with real-life facts she should never joke about, such as a mentally handicapped person having a homosexual inclination! I will no longer waste my precious time analyzing this crap called "requiriments to Be a Normal Person"On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is 1 (trash).

Ice... Ice...Ice...
29 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I discovered a panacea: ice! Yes: ice kills hunger, ice kills the thirst, ice heals leg with exposed fracture, besides being an excellent food for dogs ... Come on: ridicule has limit! So a surgeon and a reporter without eating calorie foods for more than 21 days have enough strength to climb mountains, walk in deep snow ... Ah! And the dog? Lepidus, runs after a rabbit, as if he had just come out of a pet shop, well nourished and after passing a vet ... To my knowledge, love, whether it be physical or spiritual, would be the last thing those two humans would think under a hellish chill ... Interpretations: Kate Kinslet simply makes grimaces and it is clear that she misses one safe direction to give us a reasonable interpretation, Ezra has a frown, lost look, almost unchanging features ... And ... for heaven's sake! When the writers are going to write nonsense about the dialogues: facing imminent death, hunger or cold ... keep a good mood and make jokes? On a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is: 2 (awful)

Watch it... You don't regret...
27 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Certain movies never grow old.I saw this comedy (type pastry) in 2000 in rented VCR.At the time I had good laughs. Now reviewing the film I still find an excellent movie.Directed by Adrienne Shelly, she inspires the cast in a linear fashion, without letting this actor or that actor be prominent or compromising the scene, be it the melodramatic or comedy scene, for example in that scene where Bernice (Ally Sheedy) comes out playing the tuba in

New York, accompanied by one, now, enamored and conquered Bill (Reg Rogers). The musical background is one of the best I've heard, highlight "Bill Bailey Will not You Came Home?".A real pity that Adrienne Shelly

had died in such a tragic way and only the human stupidity may explain why she is not anymore among us. If she was, certainly in this just moment was making a good movie for us laugh and spend unpretentiously a couple of hours watching it.On a scale of 1 to 10, I vote 9 (excellent).

Women versus Men
16 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Ever since I started going to the movies, French films have captivated me: most often in black and white, unusual stories, cinematic language in a totally different format from North American cinema. Well, "Elles ... les filles du plessis" inserts in this context. The director Bénédicte Delmas surprises us with a cinematic language that goes from traditional to innovative (here I'm going to abstain because I'm writing this and leave it to the reader's intelligence to understand what I mean). The story, for us men, reflects the complexity of the female ego and makes us feel "guilty" for having been born with the capacity to generate another being just feeling pleasure and leaving the "bad part" to our partners ... And that's what most men do ... unfortunately ... few are those (Jean = Robi Schinasi) who are men with capital M, assume what they "did" and marry their partner (Marie France = Roxane Bret). I'm sure that if this movie was directed by a man , the result would not be the same. By the way: Delmas was not intimidated in directing one of the greatest actresses of the French cinema: Sandrine Bonnaire and with its intelligence, she conducts the film from the beginning until the end, without devolve to the fussiness. A highlight for Noémi Merlant whose initial appearance is very striking: looking hard, relentless, challenging before the Foyer Directrice: you do not intimidate me, nobody intimidates me ...

In time: the film is based on real facts and deals with houses that receive pregnant adolescents, what until the present exists in France. The action takes place in the early 70's, where sexual liberation begins without young people being even told how the human body works.

Here in Brazil, in the northeast, the fact is commonplace and unfortunately generates from the economic point of view, underdevelopment for that part of the country ...

Returning to the subject: on a scale of 1 to 10, my vote is: 8 (great)
