Bottom line first. This film, unlike Part One, is less Dune and more Dune-Adjacent. While the first film adhered somewhat closely to the storyline of Frank Herbert's book, this section wildly veers away from the source material. It would be more accurate to say it is a film adaptation using characters and some situation from the book. It also depends on spectacle rather than storytelling.
Timothée Chalamet is again reasonably good as Paul. I am continually surprised and impressed by his range and ability.
Zendaya is also quite good. Sadly, she is hampered by Chani being written a minor secondary character.
The rest are... adequate.
Dune has a rich story with significant subtext. Sadly, director Denis Villeneuve relys far too heavily on spectacle resulting in a film that is pretty, but not at all important. This is not unexpected. He has a long history of almost-great near misses. Make no mistake, he is good, and has awards that speak to that, but he is nowhere near great. And he could be.
The costuming is good, but the characters are continually shown wearing partial stillsuits. At times, they are outside without one at all. No Fremen in their right minds would ever do this. I realize you need to show the principals faces and such, but good directors and costumers would find acceptable workarounds.
Special effect are good. Again, the concentration is on spectacle.
One more thing! The Stunt Actors are brilliant! The entire Stunt Crew deserves the greatest of praise. Their work alone adds a Star to the film. Good Job All.
