Solid Movie, Well Worth the Watch
Caught this film in Toronto a while back. It has an excellent cast of characters, who were all well developed, the film takes the time to give background and history on the characters before jumping into it.
The storyline was good too, it had plenty of twists and turns throughout keeping the viewer guessing, and managed to avoid predictability (unlike 'Hollywood-big-budget' films) and really pulls the viewer in.
The cinematography really stands out, clever shots, great colour use in some scenes too and really brings a different kind of life to the film. Most notably for me was the alleyway beating scene, the dark plot twist/events of that scene are contrasted by the brightness and the popping colours. Definitely interesting visually as well.
Overall, certainly well worth the watch.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
This very well may be the most terrifying movie made.
Well folks, I've seen most of the movies that claim to be the "scariest ever". The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining, (which I considered tame to begin with) can't hold a torch next to the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This movie was absolutely terrifying, creepy, graphic, disturbing, everything a horror movie should be. The original was mildly creepy, but this one just takes the cake. The cinematography is excellent (very rare for a horror film) especally the scene where the hitchhiker... well, you know..... I highly recommend this to anyone who isn't easily unsettled by today's typical horror movies. This one will go down as being 10000 times better then the original, and possibly one of the most frightening films of all time. 10/10
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Don't believe the hype
I saw Lord of the Rings expecting to be mezmorized by astounding acting and an incredible story so moving I wouldn't be able to forget it for the rest of my life. What I found was something very different, while the acting was decent, and I particularly liked Ian McKellan, and the cinematography, special and visual effects were fantastic, I thought the story and pace of the film was horrid. Maybe when placed alongside the other 2 yet-to-be-released films it will prove to be what I thought it may, but in the meantime, this movie should not be held as high as materpieces such as the Godfather I and II, The Shawshank Redemption, Memento, Citizen Kane, Shindlers List, Seven Samuri etc.
