Loser (2000)
A teenage version of Billy Wilder's The Apartment
While proving to be rather funny, Jason Biggs' provides a very likeable and almost heroic character. The soundtrack has many good songs, and borrows one from The Graduate. There are many similarities between Loser and The Apartment. Mena Suvari finds herself in a relationship very similar to Shirley McClaine (sp?). The female character even ends up staying with the main male charcter for the same substance abuse reason. Jason Biggs portrays a shy and vulnerable victim--much the same as Jack Lemmon. Biggs and Lemon cannot even be compared (i.e. Kevin Spacey said Jack Lemmon's character inspired him, not an American Pie), but Loser does provide a complimentary remake to the 1960 classic (for the teeny-bopper version).
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)
An unseen magic--definitely worth multiple viewings.
A regular guy finds the Good Life.
Upon first viewing, this movie may seem like a mediocre comedy. Joe vs the Volcano differs from most Tom Hanks-Meg Ryan movies--it is so much more than a romantic comedy. It shows a wisdom only found in the face of death. One should watch this movie again and again until they begin to grasp its magic.
The Great Escape (1963)
The greatest adventure ever--you won't be the same.
This movie portrays an incredible adventure in a glorious light. Never have so many famous actors come together to make such an incredible movie. Steve McQueen's character remains a phenomenal hero. The escape leaves you wanting to sneak around yourself.
Because the movie is so entertaining and epoch, it is surprising that the writers stuck with the true story. The Great Escape possesses historical accurracy, and it is definitely the greatest adventure ever.
