Anita and friends
16 January 2013
Saw this tonight on a Kuchar brothers bill at the Film Forum along with I was a teenage rum pot, pussy on a hot tin roof, hold me while I'm naked and Sins of the Fleshapoids and it was Anita that impressed me most. All of the films impressed me-that's why I went, because I've seen a few before. Had never seen 'pussy' before and it was different to watch a silent Kuchar film. Just as funny though.......of course. rum pot I liked least of the selections but was good silly fun too. 3rd on the bill was Anita. I was so delighted with the sunshine streaming through the windows onto Anita's face and as usual the color palette George uses in all of his films is present and always beautiful. Another essential I enjoyed with all of these shorts (Sins being a very long short) is the brothers' use of music. Always, ALWAYS correct in its usage. Oh, one other detail I like with the brothers' films are their artistic flair with their opening credits. Original, colorful and fun! Well, this isn't specifically about Anita entirely but I DO want to go down on record as saying it's a really wonderful little short with truly outstanding acting by the principals.

lukewarm
16 May 2010
Well it looks like I will be the first reviewer to give Artists and Models a lukewarm opinion. Saw this on the big screen today at a downtown theater. With Jerry Lewis, Dean Martin, Shirley MacLaine,Dorothy Malone and Eva Gabor and the most fun I wind up having is with Eddie Mayehoff! Loved his portrayal of publisher Murdock. I don't know...to me, this movie just got more boring as it dragged on. While I do love all the vintage set designs, vintage wardrobe and remembrances of how things used to be-one pay phone in the hall for an apartment building, Dean scrubbing up in a bathtub before a shower became common and the historical fact that comic books were once decried as evil by the bastions of society, I still had to fight off massive amounts of sleepiness as this grinded to its conclusion. I don't know...maybe it was just the mood I was in. It WAS very colorful and Martin can't keep from smiling even when he's supposed to be mad which is amusing but, Gabor was a disappointment and Malone was kind of blah and Jerry, I was just kind of bored with his schtick today. But yes the highlight for me was Mr. Murdock played by Eddie Mayehoff.

quite liked this one!

It took me a while to adjust to the boundaries of this movie but little by little you make adjustments and are able to enjoy and appreciate this 4-screen movie within one screen. at times i thought to myself "i can't keep up with this!" or "i can't follow this!". Well, not to worry.....just hang in there and grab as much as you can. By the end of the movie i was spellbound in my chair waiting until the house lights came up before budging. i saw this movie at an 11:50 p.m. showing. I was the only person in attendance. I really liked this movie and recommend it wholeheartedly but at the same time knowing there would be many many people who for them this is not their cup of tea. i understand.
