Super Troopers (2001)
Much better than it should be
What should have been a low-brow Police Academy ripoff is instead one of the most sweetly funny comedies I've seen in a long time. Look, I like my Academy Award nominees -- I saw "Gosford Park" TWICE, thank you very much -- but I was able to thoroughly enjoy the shenanigans because "Super Troopers" is smarter than it lets on.
Comedy is entirely subjective, and thankfully, I found "Super Troopers" when I did. What a delight.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)
Much better than it should be
With one of the best titles in recent memory, this little movie is much better than it should be. Clever script, easy-going direction and a cast that actually seems to believe the words their saying (although a facial expression from Heath Ledger would be nice now and then) makes for a far-better-than-average teen-angst flick. It's also fun to see the marquee-challenged Larissa Oleynik in a movie.
After Hours (1985)
The best justification possible for the Automatic Teller Machine
This is a perfect movie, although a little dated in its pre-ATM plot. Cast is right on the mark (thanks to the direction by Scorsese), particularly Catherine O'Hara and Teri Garr.
This is a movie ripe for re-interpretation -- a remake with Parker Posey and James LeGros, anyone? A musical version?
A Touch of Class (1973)
Great fun about adults who like sex
Underrated, as far as I'm concerned. One of the top sex comedies about two very real people who are both mature and interested in sex. It doesn't hurt that Glenda Jackson's so very committed to the role and George Segal's so very sexy.
That title tune's a pip, too. Nominated for Best Picture and deservedly so. This is the sex comedy that modern filmmakers should look to.
Office Space (1999)
Satisfying, but I've got one little question
What a treat this little movie is! For a drone like myself, this offered some real escapism. But, I just don't understand that last scene with Milton... can someone explain how that happened?
Also: Ron Livingston = very, very easy on the eyes.
