3000 Miles (2007)
Truly awful. Better check out Gumball movies on YouTube
Absolutely everything is wrong with this film. And I'm not even touching the ethics of the rally itself and its participants.
1) The direction (if you can call it that) is nowhere to be found.
2) It's badly edited.
3) The soundtrack is worse than that of any random porn movie.
4) The little dialogue there is, is inaudible either because the soundtrack is still playing at full volume (see: badly edited) or because the in-car engine-noise is too loud.
5) The bits that are audible make it abundantly clear that the cast are more talented skaters than comedians. Also, their contempt for the fans lining the streets is despicable.
6) For a movie about a 3000-mile road trip, you would expect some nicely filmed driving action. There is none.
It truly is an achievement to make something that is a lot worse than any home-movie made by your average 18-year neighborhood kids on a road trip would be.
Absolutely only interesting for those who enjoy shakily filmed 1 to 2 second snippets of exotic cars going by. For close to two hours.
For all others, and especially for true Gumball and other road rally fans, this is torture.
Like the summary says, it's much more fun to check out the little movies shot by fans, or by some of the other participants themselves. Much more interesting, much funnier, and MUCH better driving action.
Stay clear of this drivel.
V for Vendetta (2005)
A scathing indictment of the Republican government
When I went to see V for Vendetta, I was expecting to see a properly done comic-to-big screen adaptation, like Sin City or Spiderman.
However, very soon in the film, you'll notice that this movie is so much more than that. It's about how good people who's only crime is to be silent, let their leaders suppress them and turn them into scared, hateful, empty shells, devoid of a real life, devoid of much feeling; easily controlled subjects.
Not being familiar with the original comic, I was surprised to see how close the story follows current world-events: The Chancellor (George W Bush) a religious zealot, who wants to exterminate everyone and everything who does not conform to this extremist beliefs: non-Christians, gays, artists, freedom.
In a way reminding of 'Equilibrium' - except he does not use compulsory drugs, but spreads fear about terrorists, even though he himself is revealed to be the actual terrorist, responsible for 100,000s of deaths.
The widespread Big Brother - (NSA) phone-taps, covert listening devices, always on the look for subversive elements who do not support the oppressive leadership.
Creedy, the Chancellor's soulless executioner (Dick Cheney, Karl Rove).
His cronies, (Big Oil, Halliburton) who have earned billions thanks to their loyalty to the Chancellor and his destruction of civilized society.
His rubber-stamp council/senate (the Republican controlled branches of government), who are only looking to retain their own positions of power, and not in good government.
The only way the movie sees to deal with this, is to educate people, let them have a little taste of that freedom they have been missing lately, and most importantly: to give the people back their voice - march on the streets, and bring down the oppressors!
