Troy (2004)
The Legend Lives!
I didn't read the book (on purpose), so don't compare what I saw with the prof. critics. But perhaps my review will stand for the film better this way!
I thought the film was excellent! Based on the first action book in Western History, the story, fx, battles, fights, sets, score & acting is all first rate! (Dear religious folk: there's a bit of sex in it, but no cursing that I can recall).
Highlight: the climax! Lowlight: for me, nothing! I loved every moment. It helps a lot I'm a history buff, btw.
For the ladies: Brad Pitt is stunning. For the Men: Helen is gorgeous!
If you liked my review, take the nearest ship to your local multiplex!

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003)
Not nearly as bad as you have heard.
Two of Dicken's most famous words "Great Expectations," seem to have really hurt this film. Was it the fact, it was a high budget film or the fact Sean Connelly was staring or the fact only Peta Wilson was well know to US viewers? Well, it wasn't great; I was confused by two invisible men at the end. I Still don't know who was who! The plot details could have been better. The Cap Nemo actor was not good & why was he a Hindu or an Arabic & which one was he?! But, I had a good time, Ms. Wilson is strong & sexy & perfectly cast. Most of the cast is good & some of the FX is excellent. (Well, some of it could have been better, too.)
So, I guess I can see why it was blasted, but I was expecting the worst movie of all time & it's far from that!
Overall: C +
Schindler's List (1993)
One of the absolute best!
I do not give away plot details (nor do I understand why Anyone does!), let me say this: you will Not be disappointed. A truly great film, most will agree. Much better than the Piano in my mind. I'm sure the B & W hurt the box office, but Spielberg isn't concerned with that, was he?! For me, the B & W made it less intense (I'm nearly sure, that wasn't the main M.O.; probably done because Steven "saw" the past in B & W) & I was glad. I do wish to single out Liam Neeson & Ralph Fiennes for electrifying performances.
Can not be overly praised.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
It's no hype; It Is the greatest movie ever made.
One would think, with all the praise, all the books & the first two movies, I would be prepared for the final installment of the Lord. But no! Like all movies, it's not perfect: too long of course! Especially the first act. It seemed like it's designed for people without knowledge of the first two films, but once it get's going, wow! Acts two & three are probably the most brilliant, greatest & most satisfying of my movie going life & I'm nearly 49 yrs. old! And not only should it get the Best Picture Award, but Sean Astin should get best actor, too. A simply brilliant job of acting in the single brightest film yet made.
About Last Night... (1986)
Grating on one's nerves
Although It could be worse, this movie may have done it's job Too well. Especially James Belushi playing a "jerk-friend." It feels like he has a lot of practice playing this role (know what I mean?). But Demi Moore's friend isn't much better. On the plus side, Rob Lowe's acting is very good & Moore's (such an underrated actress!) is excellent. Maybe a good movie showing young people not to rush into anything, but be warned: the medicine isn't especially good tasting.
Red Heat (1988)
Red Meltdown,
I can't understand why this gets any good reviews. This is a Red Turkey! Arnold acts (I'm sure it's on purpose) as the Terminator/Red cop. His co-star isn't a good actor, at all. But what really stinks about it, is the writing. F this, F that & most of the humor is forced & falls flat.
