Lost in Translation (2003)
Translationism
I liked the movie. It was a thoughtful movie concerning two people from different ends of the spectrum who gel for a small while and then only have their memories of their time together. Anyway, it's a movie for people who like to experience movies, not for those who want to have crap shoved down their throats.
Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003)
Great Flick, look no strings!
I absolutely loved this flick. It has martial arts, revenge, swords, Uma Thurman, everything a boy could hope for! In a movie industry overrun by special effects, it's nice to see guys of Tarantinos caliber putting the old school movie making to good use. If you liked Tarantinos earlier stuff (and who didn't?) give this one a peek, you will not be displeased. I said "wow" during the film, and I don't do that much.
Munchie (1992)
A great Movie...not really.
Munchie can make pizzas fly down the street. They found munchie in some box hidden away in a mine or something. Jennifer Love-Hewit is in this. So is Loni Anderson. This is a heartwarming tale of a kid who finds Munchie, then gets springboarded to popularity. Munchie is cool. He looks stupid, and when he talks, his hands twirl around. Watch this movie late late at night with friends, you'll laugh your head off. That one big guy from Canonball run is Munchies voice.
A Christmas Story (1983)
THE best christmas movie of all time...
This movie is the end all for Christmas films. It has an impatient Santa, pushy elves, swearing parents who win major awards, kids shooting their eyes out (almost), ravenous neighbor dogs, crappy decoder rings, tongues stuck to frozen poles, bullys getting their due, horrible bunny costumes, and my favorite...the end of the line kid. "I like the Wizard of Oz. I like the Tin Man." This movie has warmed my heart and made me laugh since I was a little kid. I must watch it each year at least once. 11 stars.
Wrong Turn (2003)
I got some blood in my popcorn...is this your thumb?
I, as many people, went into the movie not expecting much. I am a lover of fine zombie and horror flicks such as Dead Alive, the Evil Dead series, and all that crap. This movie was pretty average, but i give it a brain busting pat on the back. The gore was well done. The cheesy acting was spot on and the sense of satisfaction at the end was enough to keep me happy on the way out of the theater. I especially liked the one head busting scene in the trees.
Adaptation. (2002)
Great flick...How'd I end up in it?
I love the device of putting himself and his fictitious brother in the story. Very inventive and imaginative script writing. Jonze also shows he is a great director. The acting was perfect, Cooper deserved the award he received. I'm never going to make a good script, all the good ideas are used up! : )
The Postman (1997)
What's the deal, it's not that bad...
I do not think this movie deserved all the "RAZZIES" that it garnered. I thought it was actually a decent movie with an interesting story. The only thing wrong might be the length, but for those with patients, it's no biggie. I would recommend the movie to anyone.
Holes (2003)
This movie has a lot of Holes.
The story was kind of interesting, but drags the viewer through a painfully boring and dry 2 hours, or what felt like 3 hours. A half hour could have been cut out of this movie, to no ill effects. There were dozens of pointless scenes. And why did such good actors agree to do such a bad movie? I think Disney should have just released this on the Disney channel rather than a theatrical release. Very painful viewing.
Punch-Drunk Love (2002)
Punch me in the face, this movie is great.
This is a wonderfully directed movie about a eccentric fellow who finds love with an eccentric woman. PTA uses the most quirky and interesting characters, music, editing, and cinematography to bring a fresh and funny movie that only gets better on repeat viewings. If you like the wierder side of life, deadpan, and life in general, give this a look. Give "Trust" by director Hal Hartley a look as well, reminds me of this movie.
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003)
Terminator 3: I hope this is the end.
I'm tired of reviews saying, "The movie was pretty moronic, but the action was cool." This movie was made for one reason, money. Yeah I know, so are alot of others. I was sitting in the theater thinking, "I saw this movie two times in the past, maybe they'll send a Terminator to this theater to stop me from watching this." Then I thought, "Maybe a terminator will be sent to the future to stop T4 from being made, so that I won't have to sit through another one." Maybe a new storyline could include the machines getting along with humans, and then we could all enjoy a cup of capo and oil respectively. What I'm saying is there was no thought put into this movie, it's just a rehash of T2. Arnold plays a great robot. That Loken plays a great robot. The guy who played Connor could play a great robot. I'm tired of writing this review, just like I'm tired of this franchise. (Maybe just like Cameron, Hamilton, and Furlong were probably tired of it.)
Mr. Deeds (2002)
Mr. deeds is Nice. Too nice.
This flim lacks what makes early Adam Sandler films great, an edge. He's too nice in this movie. That's my opinion. It's not that good of a movie. I laughed at some stuff, but it's mainly a copy of all the rest of his movies. BLah and more Blah.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
Dull and boring.
I found this film too wear me out. I recognize it for what it is, but it is not a GREAT movie. Crowes performance wore me out, it's just one load of boring story after another. After youget past the fact that he has a problem, it goes nowhere FASt! A story better left to a book.
Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (2001)
Fabulous
I cannot describe how good this movie is. If you love movies, this is the one to see. If you love Van Damme, go see Men in Black II. This should have beat that blah piece of cellulite A Beautiful Mind as film of the year. Great %&^*&^$* movie! Buy it now.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Fun....yeah.
Now well into the age of CG that can create any landscape the mind can realize, George Lucas creates his latest installment of the Star wars saga, Attack of the Clones.
But is all this CG A good thing?
Growing up with movies such as Tron and The Last Starfighter, I used to think that CG was the wave of the future. It is to a certain extent. But more and more in movies these days you see the "making ofs" where the actors are walking around, through and hang over enormous sets of blue and green. I saw these blue screens everywhere in a feature on star wars. I also saw actors talking to thin air.
What it all boils down to is that in trying to make everything CG and having the ability to change a whole scene by use of a computer, you steal from the movie. I can't describe it effectively but the latex masks and the plaster sets give the actors something substancial to work with. They can actually look upon the face of the Swamp Thing rather than gaze upon a wire frame of Jar Jar.
Give me hairy Chewbacca or give me death.
**Insert maniacal Star wars fan stuff here** Yoda kicked Butt. All except the scenes in the air thingies. "Perimeter around the survivors do make" or some crap. "HUH?" Jango was kinda harsh, but what was up with Boba? I thought George would keep him more mysterious rather than give him that cliched storyline. Also I thought the Jedis would be tougher than they were, they actually didn't live up to their calling, at least from my minds eye.
Blah Blah Blah
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
Not funny? Come on....
I just wanted to respond to the people who thought this movie was not the 'comedy' it was tauted as.... HUH? I laughed throughout the entire movie! I do not want to sound like I'm beating a dead bush here but there actually is a certain kind of humor that some people just do not get, it happens all the time when I go to movies. People look at me like I'm on something that I laughed at a certain part of a movie. I've actually been told to quiet down or been told directly, "That's not funny." This is what I felt when I went to see this movie, like I was in some exclusive group that knew what was going on... I'll put people into two catagories (which I hate to do), those that laugh at episodes of 'Friends', and those that laugh at life itself.
Oh, and if you hear someone laughing in the theater and you are not, keep your comments to yourself. Someone's trying to enjoy a movie.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
Good Visuals, That's about it.
I liked aspects of this movie, but the movie as a whole does not stand up to the great movies. Sure the kids all love Harry Potter, but they also love Pokemon, and don't get me started on that. I guess all the hype came from the fact that this phenomenon extended to even the adult demographic. Parents started reading the books as well. So they all went to see this wonderful movie together, so I just had to go.
To tell you the truth, it is a pretty good magical tale about a boy who is destined to be the ultimate of wizards. In my opinion, though, the movie seemed to hop along like a chocolate frog, it seemed disjointed to me. It's almost as if there are certain defined 'chapters' that have been plopped down right out of the book. It needed to flow a little better if you know what I mean. Other than that, it seemed to hit the mark.
I just wasn't very interested in it at all. I've seen to many movies to be impressed anymore by special effects, it's got to have real character. And Harry Potter needs character.
Spy Game (2001)
Spy GAmes: like Reindeer games?
I think that if I would've stayed home and watch the Island of Misfit Toys, I would've had more fun than watching this yawn inducing C.I.A. infested SPEYE movie. First off, what the hell are all those damn flashbacks, flash fowards, and flashsideways all about. So the dude gets put in prison, GET HIM OUT ALREADY!!! And what's up with this island thing he did the switcharo with??? It was like, "Hey, we pulled off something cool." NO, you're lame. Go see this movie if ya like to take dumps.
(Note: I did not really like this movie that much.)
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Lord of the Screen
In my earlier reviews I stated that I thought series of Pauly Shore movies that came out in the past were the best set of movies ever.
I was wrong.
These are probably a little better...
(Note: I have a smirk on my face and I am laughing my head off...) LOTR is a great movie.
The Others (2001)
Ghostly good movie.
I walked into the theatre not knowing anything about this movie. This is how you should to. A good (not great) ghost story. I enjoyed it very much. It kept me guessing until the final sequence. (Unlike the Sixth Sense.) I'd even go as far as to say that it is the Sixth Sense the way it should of been made. You will enjoy this movie. S.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
GreatMovie, I don't care what you think :)
Anything Kubrik will get the nod from me, even if he didn't direct it. Speilberg pulls off his best Kubrik impersonation, and wins. Really, this movie is hauntingly Kubrik with a touch of Speilberg. I enjoyed the whole movie. THE BEST special effects mixed in with a great story makes for a chillingly beautiful movie. I LOVED IT. S.
Jurassic Park III (2001)
Jurassic Fun
I liked the movie. It's quick and to the point. What's the point you ask? The point is Large dinosaurs eating poor little humans.. Seriously, it's not a thinking mans movie but it's fun.... COMMENCE WITH THE CARNAGE :) S.
Wo hu cang long (2000)
Simply Brilliant!
When I saw the preview for this movie, I was blown away. But I had no Idea just how good it was going to be. Simply brilliant. I wanted to watch it again 1/3 of the way through it. I did not want it to end. I cannot say anything further but GO SEE IT NOW: RUN!!!!!
