An Audience with Victoria Wood (1988 TV Special)
10/10
My one guarantee of laughter
26 December 2006
I watch this programme on DVD whenever I feel a bit down, it is my one guaranteed way of emerging from a slump!! ... the characterisations are Spot on! everything from the perfume counter Rep, to the finale song "Can't Do It" ... they take me way past Smile and into Belly-Laugh territory! ....

Plus the contributions from the Celebrity audience, obviously hand picked ... are fabulous.

IF you get the chance, it's a MUST SEE.

Victoria: if you read this you've inspired me to start writing. Lotsa Luv

a Perfect film
6 April 2006
I only caught this film by accident! ... it was on TV and I couldn't decided what I wanted to do, so probably the best time to catch me off guard!! the performances are magical, "Albert Brooks" whom I had never heard of, (me being a Brit and NOT seeing much of "Saturday Night Live"), and being the same age as myself portrayed my generation of an average Joe to a T ...

and "Jennifer" played by "Leelee Sobieski" made me realise that not ALL kids are the way I see them portrayed in movies and on TV, she played the part as a REAL person (not some dimwitted moron, or violent thug) ... all in all a wonderful story and told like it should be!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmph!!!
18 February 2005
All I can say is I wasted 113 minutes of my life watching this Crap!! (is that considered a Spoiler?)

Umm, seems I've got to continue as there is a minimum of 10 lines before I can post! so onwards.....

First and foremost, it's boring as hell.

I can't understand WHY! it's gained Cult status.

the Acting is Mediocre at best!!

the Poster and Cover are misleading,

.....I think most people who watch or buy were expecting a Horror movie.

I suppose the fact that I was slightly mislead, influenced my giving this movie only 1 point.

But even so I maintain my criticisms.

And if anyone disagree's, we're all allowed our say!!!

Never Mind the Buzzcocks (1996–2023)
Older is better
24 April 2004
I totally agree with everyone else, Mark Lamar is excellent as Presenter, Phill Jupitus is difficult to dislike, and SeanHughes/Bill Bailey have a great off the wall take on life .... but must add the comment, that it's usually better when "older" stars are the guests, and when they don't quite "get" what is going on, eg: Lemmy (Motorhead), who at first didn't understand what was happening, and when he did, took offence at the jokes being mostly at his expense and walked off in the last few seconds of the programme. ..... I'm not sure the title would work elsewhere in the world though, the Sex Pistols reference is obvious, but "Buzzcocks" less so. .... "Anyone got ideas for other titles for around the world ?"

A Truly wonderous film
23 August 2003
I've just watched this film (Whistle Down the Wind) for the .... well I don't know how many times ... I first saw it on it's Initial release in 1961, and just like that time, I'm sat here with tears rolling down my face again, BUT!! unlike the first time, as a Christian 12 year old boy, I'm now a Cynical/Atheist 54 year old man ... the acting is Fabulous, I must single out Alan Barnes here, as the young brother, both touching and VERY funny, I'm amazed he didn't carry on to do much more. ... if anyone knows what he's doing now let me know!!! ... IF you get a chance "WATCH IT".

Hulk (2003)
Did the makers learn nothing from the first X-Men movie....
21 July 2003
OK, the acting is good, the effects are excellent, BUT!!! if you can't wait for the follow-up (IF there is one), don't bother going into the theater until this movie is at least 40 minutes into the story, it's all build-up, and NOT good build-up ............ I'd give the first 40 minutes 2/10 after that a good 8/10. .... roll on "Hulk II"

Watch it again in 10 years REPRO
16 June 2003
with regards to the comments on this TV show by REPRO, all I can say is watch it again in another 10 years, remember it took that long for "Monty Python" to be appreciated around the world, but don't worry about being so far behind in your appreciation, the rest of the world catches up with the Brit humour EVENTUALLY, just remember "Are You Being Served" "Keeping Up Appearences" and "Benny Hill" are just a few examples.

This is what "Real Cool" means
18 April 2003
I've been watching this series since episode 1, here on UK TV it only started in early 2003, 4 years after it was cancelled, which is a pity, because if it was shown when the series was originally broadcast in the States, we in the UK would've caused a helluva stink about it being cancelled, like we have with other US shows, and kept it on screen for more than just the one run ..... C`est la vie!!! or as we say here. Stuff the Network Programmers.

"Magical"
18 February 2003
Well, what can I say, of the 20 or so reviews below, there is a dissenting voice, this is a "Truly Magical Movie" I won't go into the story, read the reviews below below for that, I'll just say, put it at the top of your "MUST SEE" list, it's long time since I saw it, and I've been looking for a copy ever since (with NO luck I might add)

Now stop reading and go watch it....... 'o) BUT!!! beware, like I said, it's Magical, and will entrance you.

* * * * WOW * * * *
19 December 2002
I saw this film on the opening day (yesterday)

I don't think I've ever been this impressed visually by a film before, it is the most stunningly beautifully filmed piece to date, and "Gollum" must get a special mention, I don't know what I expected, but my imagination didn't even come close to expecting this.

"STOP READING" AND "GO SEE IT" ***** (Yes, thats 5 stars)

Well first off let me just say that unlike most of the comments I've read on this film, I went into the Cinema totally `blind` so to speak, I had "NO" preconceived ideas, I'd never even heard the Title of the film until I entered the foyer, and I just wanted to see something different, well I can assure you "THIS IS DIFFERENT" for one thing it's thought provoking, well constructed, and doesn't feel the need to explain every minor detail, Danny Boyle figures if you're 18 (UK Certificate) then you'll be able to work things out for yourself, as for people saying the acting isn't great, I think it's spot on, I don't know what world they live in, but given the circumstances within the story, I'm pretty sure thats how I and most of the people I know would react. that said the film isn't perfect and does `Jar` in a couple of places, but you can make your own mind up on that score. I'll end with a little bit of my own philosophy ........ don't EVER let a bad review stop you from going to see ANY film, most "Cult" and "Classic" films started with lousy reviews. "so sayeth the Dissector"

Can't wait for the sequel
14 April 2001
Not because I consider this a good film, because like the first Superman it's all build-up, and never seems to arrive. and even the action isn't that good. so hopefully! like the Superman films number two will be much better.

Shadow Over Elveron (1968 TV Movie)
The first scary TV movie I ever saw
11 March 2001
Yes I know it's not a horror film! but when I first saw this film, aged around 15 it was a much gentler age, and people didn't do the sort of things that happened in this film, not in rural England anyway, I'd love to see it again now! just to see if it has the same kind of impact on me. if anyone knows where I can get a copy, please let me know. One of my top 10
4 January 2001
This is one of my favourite films, even though it may now seem a bit dated, the acting is atrocious, it's very slow to begin with (hint: it's worth waiting for the Ice-Cream man) and some of the scenes are a bit staged, but that said, it's one hell of a roller coaster once you get going.
