Troy (2004)
Wow, that was one underrated movie
I usually trust most critics when it comes to epic movies since it's not one of those genres like comedy that would be described by most of them as "low intelligence art". Brad Pitt was truly excellent, all actors were truly excellent. Got some points of Homer's Illiad quite well, of course it couldn't include everything and hey, they were honest to say it was 'inspired' by Homer's "Illiad" not even based which would be OK. And anyway I'm from Greece and here we are taught Homer from Junior high school but not in any way does a comparison with the original poem makes the movie any worse or any better. The only way actually to make a book or a poem like that into a movie is to make it a series of many, many hours.
Thumbs up, that was a 9/10 movie no doubt about it.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
For the broken hearted
This is a film to be watched by anyone that felt brokenhearted at least once in their lifetime.
It's a beat up to the logic that wants couples to have always bad luck.
It will eventually get boring, it will eventually die. It will eventually won't be as beautiful as it started.. but, we can always make a change, make it better next time, and who knows, maybe some day we learn how to stop it or let it continue for ever.
Thank you all responsible for this film.
It will definitely help people, educate them, make them cry, make them love in a better way.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Ah.. what to say first
What to say first, for a movie that has changed the way I see the 7th art.
It was 1994 when my parents went home from the premiere our home town's municipality has made. "Don't watch this sick film", said my mother. "yes, listen to your mother and don't watch this sick film", my father agreed.
As a typical 17 year old, this was the best thing they could do to make me watch it. I still act like that, but at that age, it was just the thing.
Well, and and it blew me away. I won't be lieing, the extreme scenes of sodomy and killings that are on this film it's not what makes me like it.
In the contrary, that scenes is exactly not the point. The point is the de-synced plot and the excellent performances, lines and pictures, on a movie that reached so many people.
It was not the first time, a movie was violent. It was not the first time, a movie had excellent performances, music, direction or even de-synced timing on the plot.
But it was the first time a movie took all these elements and made,
a masterpiece.
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
Michael Moore is one brave man.
Michael Moore is one brave man. If you want to watch a movie that has the bravery to show up, tell the truth of the authors plain and simple, no cuts, no PGs, no let's tease the public, no certain political views, just plain simple truths from a simple but wide mind, watch this Documentary.
If you are a political mind, it will shock you, straight and simple. Even if you knew the points of the movie already, it will still shock you for its originality and bravery to show up these points on international cinema.
If you're a simple person of no certain political beliefs it will make you laugh and feel great. It will make you feel great that are still free people in this world, still free people in america, that can just say what they believe, without caring what politicians and large corporations are going to charge.
Michael Moore is one brave man, and one man that his future is uncertain, no one knows what chain reactions this movie will bring to his life and crew from politicians and corporations.
A great thanks to users of imdb.com that voted and overall of 9 over 10 on a movie that truly deserves it.
One great thanks to Michael Moore for being brave and making me cry for his bravery and strength in acting as he wants.
One great example of human creation, bravery and self/public consciousness.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Complete lack of aim
There is no aim in this plot. Why don't anyone mentions it? There is completely no reason to use such a "who cares?" reason to base a whole plot on it. Come on people, this is a war movie. People die in thousands, not only sons of a mother, but mothers as well. Wars don't only happen to distant places, they may happen next to your door.
Thanks Spielberg for another stupid, completely out of interest plot.
On the contrary, the directing was fantastic. The imaging work on this movie was also fantastic, maybe the best ever achieved on a war movie.
Tom Hanks is excellent, as always.
I'd give it 10/10 if it was for another plot. For now, sorry, but 7/10 would be enough.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002)
A Pleasure to Watch
Watching the first hour of the movie I was quite taken aback, being a greek myself wouldn't expect such cultural-centric behaviour from a greek family. Then I thought "oh well, that's a family living in usa". And it's quite true, being away from home, makes all these cultural characteristics stronger, wanting them never to leave your life. I believe an american, canadian, british, german, italian or whatever family would have similar behaviour over local customs living on a distant land. So, I pushed back my personal feelings about "giving a bad name to greeks"(because they were wrong) and watched the rest of the movie.
It's a nice movie I would put in the genre of "ethnic comedies". An ethnic movie, not because it's about a greek family, but because it's about a greek family speaking english:)
It's funny, it's about love and caring, about cultural differences and how to overcome them. It's quite a nice movie actually that I wouldn't spoil telling you what the plot is.
I'd say 7.5/10.
The Tomorrow Man (2002)
A movie you're gonna like
I liked this movie, it had a great plot and an average direction. Maybe the direction was not that bad, it was a low budget film, therefore maybe that had turned down the chances to be a big hit. Fantasy/Sci-fi friends go for it, others, you're gonna spend a nice evening with it. In overall, 7/10.
Gynaikes dilitirio (1993)
This is one of the best greek comedies ever made.
Don't miss out probably-the-best greek comedy ever made. Great acting and direction result to a film of great action and big laughs. George Papadopoulos gives the best acting of his career and along with the script, one of the best comics ever. Don't miss out.
Apt Pupil (1998)
What a bad movie!
What a good direction spoiled with such a bad script. I mean the dialogues were good and the symbolisms even better but what about the rest?
It was just another movie: Look how bad nazis are.
or: Look how many nazis live around us.
NOTHING changed in the whole movie and the WORST:
NOTHING new was discovered.
WE KNOW THESE THINGS, YOU DON'T HAVE TO REMIND US. Wasn't Schindler's List enough for the rest 30 years? That was a VERY good film though. Not that bad attempt of showing a psychological-background that it's not there at all.
NAZIS are bad.
KILLING is bad.
We know that. We need something new from a movie.
AMERICAN HISTORY X: Gives a good SOLUTION to the problem. Not just THE PROBLEM. Or watch SCHINDLER'S LIST. That gives a good aproach to the goodness people have deep inside.
Let's make good movies. Fresh, new, giving solutions, giving reality, giving beauty.
Thanks for reading me.
