Jack Reacher meets 'The Gilmoure Girls'
14 September 2017
Soooo disappointed..Having read many of Lee Childs wonderful books, and not having seen the 2010 'Jack Reacher',I looked forward to this new release.I went into this knowing so many people made fun of the fact that Tom Cruise was almost a foot shorter than Jack Reacher..Great opening scenes soon went downhill fast.Cruise's face looked puffed, and his performance'somnambulistic'..Their was no suspense,or story for that matter.'The Daughter' was the end for me..Forget about the bad guys,I wanted to kill her!..A travesty of Lee Childs creation..Reacher was treated as a feminist joke here...And the worst part of all was the direction of Edward Zwick..A very good Director on the skids..

funny send-up
4 July 2001
Not a sequel, but a companion piece to Support Your Local Sheriff, and a very funny spoof in it's own right. The cast underplayed it beautifully(not like todays hit you over the head variety).A special mention to Jack Elam, who had me in stitches. He was the master of the false bravado.Oldtime western fans will love it.

A gem
31 May 2001
A genuine classic.(Not just because it's more than 20 years old!)Yes,it's a shame Charles Laughton didn't direct again.Alfred Hitchcock could have picked up some pointers from this one.Stunning imagery, beautifully shot and genuinely suspenseful.Robert Mitchum(too often wasted in inferior films and sleepy performances),shows here that all he needed was a swift kick at times to show everyone how good he was.Should rate highly in all time great film lists.

horny robot
5 April 2001
This film looks like it was directed by Steven Spielberg, himself no stranger to manipulative drivel like this.Director Columbus has made a good looking ,but dull and tedious film.Sam Neil gives the only convincing performance in this saccharine mush.(The once great)Robin Williams notion of "real feelings",(What Dreams May Come,Patch Adams etc),and this clunker, are an embarrassment. What could have been a good film takes a downward spiral as soon as "Andrew" is switched on.Williams wisecracking robot is never convincing. It seems that the ultimate achievement that a robot can aspire to, is to get laid.Just when I thought it couldn't lapse any further in bad taste there was the marriage between Andrew and the grand-daughter of the little girl he used to look after. It wasn't incest, but it made me very squirm in my chair just the same.If sex was the 200 year ambition, the female robot(upgraded),would have worked. The producers should have watched any of the Star Trek series on androids ,to see how to make a film like this work.

Godzilla (I) (1998)

Emmerich the auteur?,no, Emmerich the amateur!
4 March 2001
I saw this film when it was first released ,a couple of years ago.Unfortunately time hasn't faded the awfulness of it.Roland Emmerich is not a director,he's a conveyer belt assembler! Godzilla is worse than Indepedence Day.Any film,no matter how unbelievable it's storyline can suspend your disbelief in the right hands. This film was in the wrong hands big time. The "Yeah...but it's only a flick" answer doesn't hold up.For the obscene amount of money put into this bloated mess, you would at least think they would try a hell of a lot harder! For an example ,check out "Gorgo" a 1961 british film,or a dozen others.

nothing but "*&#!"

Not a lot I can add to the comments list for this atrocity, but I felt compelled to anyhow.Yes,what was Dan Ackroyd thinking when he came up with this? It's like he had a nightmare and upon wakening, wrote it down scene for scene. He should have filmed his sales pitch to the studio exec's,now that would have been funny! Studio exec;"Yeah,Dan.... I think I get it......now what was that part again where your nose is a penis?".....I like John Candy ,although his batting average was pretty poor when it came to his film choices. This film makes his other bad ones look like classics.Peter Sellars was once asked what he would do if he could live his life over.He replied "I would do every thing the same, except I wouldn't see THE MAGUS."(1968 Michael Caine).Had he lived to see Nothing But Trouble,he may well have reconsidered his choice.

the lost patrol showed up on tv the other day,and being a movie buff I was surprised i had never seen it.the film seemed a bit stilted and john ford should have told boris karloff to can the silent movie histrionics, but it was good for it's time, and remade probably a hundred times.i'm glad i saw it.
