My Dinner with Andre (1981)
Waiter! There's a boring man in my soup!
Truly a terrible film. I pontificated about my belly button lint while Louis Malle didn't even make up for subjecting me to Wallace Shawn's whine-tastic introduction. What discourse: ''Tell me more'', ''So what happened after that?'', ''Inconceivable!'' are all examples of Shawn's gift of the gab. What an ugly, brown restaurant! What an arrogant old waiter. Sure, André Gregorie recounts his stories with enthusiasm, but getting to the end of this film took longer than waiting for ice cubes to melt at the antarctic pole. There is a reason why Wallace Shawn's voice was used for the dinosaur in Toy Story, and it's because, like Children during the Victorian age, he is better seen and not heard. Does it matter that Wallace Shawn is in fact not a Dinosaur? Well, to that sir I reply you're only thinking in the literal sense. Everyone involved in this film were obviously stuck in the Triassic period...in their minds...RAWRRRful!
Bak fat moh lui zyun (1993)
A lot better than crounching tiger, hidden dragon
I don`t understand why people and especially critic are so overwelmed by the last film of Ang Lee. The bride with white hair is the best in the genre. Great story, fantastic character and special effect at the right time, not all the time. The picture is beautiful and the story as no break in the middle, like in crouching dragon. The whole part where they tell us the story of the young lady and the young thief is so long and boring that I almost left the theater. So what`s the big deal.
Gokudô sengokushi: Fudô (1996)
Simply Sublime
This is one of the best samurai/action/drama/horror movie I SIMPLY... ever saw! Miike Takashi mixes all of this in this over the top action genre! I saw a couple of his other movies and this one I recommend it to any Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson. Miike Takashi is for sure the best hope of Japanese underground film along with Shinya Tsukamoto.
