Le silence de la forêt (2003)
An amazing journey
Just saw this at the Toronto Film Festival. This is a movie that is utterly and thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. The protagonist is a man returning from France back to Western Africa in order to exact change for all of his people. But they don't want change and don't realize the benefit in it. Based on a novel, they used pigmies or baboonga all from the same tribe as the chorus for a good part of the movie. The music is great and the story as good. See it if you can!!
The Banger Sisters (2002)
I REALLY enjoyed this movie
Besides Private Benjamin I have never been a huge Goldie Hawn fan. The Banger Sisters has changed that though. This movie surprised me in that i liked it so much i watched it again the next day. Then i went out and bought the dvd (used from blockbusters) and have watched it several times again. The care-free attitude of Goldie Hawn in this movie is great to see. Yes, there are a few contrived moments but the director (who also wrote the movie) tries and does give us an enjoyable flick. Throw caution to the wind and party. REmeber what made you young and original and know that it isn't completely lost. Goldie portrays Suzette to a tee. I am not sure if this movie was written for her but she makes the movie (Sarandon is great too but this is goldie's movie). I am now a huge goldie fan. I have rented a few of her eighties movies (not bad) but by far the Banger Sisters is the best!! Rent it or buy it but see it for sure. This is one of those feel good movies that you can throw on any old time for a blast. Enjoy.
Baby Boom (1987)
I LOVE this movie
Okay, this may sound lame coming from a man in his 30s but this is one of my favourite movies. There is something about Keaton in this role that is very uplifting to watch. This movie is my blue day movie when I want to be cheered up. I can plop the dvd in any time and enjoy watching it. I think one of the things that makes this movie work is the fact that she meets the demands that cross her path and she has her priorities right. I myself work in the corporate world and know how hard it is for any parent who wants to spend time with their kid. Of course, my favourite part is at the end when she turns down the very rich offer from the company that screwed her around. When she says "and there is this veterinarian I am seeing" the look of complete happiness in her life - very uplifting. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to relax be uplifted and laugh. enjoy
Xanadu (1980)
Classic cult flick
This movie is classic and gets better with age, unlike her Grease which cannot be watched by adults. Obviously one is required to suspend reality when watching this movie. It is a world of fantasy music and dance. The original moulin rouge!
American Psycho (2000)
This is a great movie!
I saw this movie on video. I had heard that Bale was great in it and he was. The entire movie is well done. It is creepy, scary and funny at the same time. You should rent this movie but only if you have a strong stomach and can withstand blood and a little violence.
Heartburn (1986)
This is a good movie!
I saw this movie many times the last time being years ago. I thought it was an excellent movie that dealt with harsh realities in a relationship. The acting was fantastic. Come to think of it, it is time to see it again.
