Lakewood (2021)
Was hoping her cell phone battery would die!
Crazy cell phone calls x50 while Mom is jogging. Stupid beginning. Let my Wife watch by herself. Sorry for my bad rating if it turns out to be a good movie.
On the Rocks (2020)
Wife loved it. I hated it!
Whew, feel asleep watching this one. Wifey thought it was good (not great) so met her halfway and gave it a 5 . Good luck watching this one. Biil was Bill but the script was terrible.
Addicted (2014)
Lifetime Channel could have done a better job.
I went to this movie mostly because of the show times of other movies we really wanted to see that we would have had to wait several hours for. I read one of the user's reviews and thought, "maybe not too bad" and it had the word "thriller" as in crime thriller in the IMDb heading. I thought it may be a nice twisted psycho type flick, spiced up a bit by the sexual addiction line.
"Based on the best-selling novel by Zane, ADDICTED is a sexy and provocative thriller about desire and the dangers of indiscretion."...Lions Gate Plot summary.
It was totally off the mark. Bad acting, bad scripting, bad direction. I have seldom been mislead by user reviews (often by Critics) so I was upset. Money and time totally wasted. There were only 10 others in the theater so that should have been a warning. Hopefully, I haven't given anything away here other than a warning...don't go!
Bad Santa (2003)
Bad Santa, Really Bad movie
OK, folks, I admit I was suckered in by GOOD reviews by folks I trusted (?). I just saw this movie about 3 hrs ago and I'm still wondering which gave me the indigestion...the Italian meal after the movie or the movie? I'm a big Billy Bob fan and admit I would have seen this even with negative reviews but ...uhh?? What were folks thinking who wrote/directed this?
The swearing was constant, the "black humor" was so dark, my wife and I both could not see it. It was as if it went on and on and on with 4-letter words and drinking to the point that I wanted to scream...OK I get it...now pleaasssse stop hammering us on the head and on with the plot?
I won't do "spoilers" here because the entire movie was spoiled so all I can say is, save your hard earn Xmas $$ this season and wait till it comes on LATE night tv free in 10 years or so. Really later. Then see it. You will probably find the late night Tine-Life commercials more entertaining.
What was even sadder were all the young kids that were there with their parents (?) thinking probably that any movie with the word "Santa" in it surely couldn't be all that bad? wrong!
Switch (1991)
Title/End music worth the price of watching.
Performed by Paul Young & Clannad, this haunting rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" is worth the price of watching this poorly done Blake Edwards movie. The end of the movie has a nice twist that is out of place with the rest of the movie because its actually so cleverly done!
Catch this one on late night TV, but don't waste the rental $$.
But do try and find a copy of the soundtrack for this wonderful music. Sorry can't vouch for the rest of the songs.
Lost Highway (1997)
Lost Me...gave it a 6 because of excellent mood effects and acting.
Lost Highway..lost me...gave it a 6 because of excellent mood effects and acting.
This film was co-authored by the Director and another writer. Its almost as if one wanted to write a good old fashioned "thriller" and the other author a supernatural/cultish flick. Having seen several of Lynch's other films I was somewhat surprised to see this sci-fi-ish stuff introduced. Sorry folks, but can't give this a "highly recommended" to any of David Lynch's followers but it is worth a look if you are a fan of his. His lightening and mood effects are here...but its not "pure Lynch"..IMOHO.
Hearts in Atlantis (2001)
Follows the book closely. May not be a "family movie".
Hopkins is excellent in the role. Having read the book last year I already had a mental picture of what Ted should look like...and he did! In fact all the characters were cast as if they walked out of the book. I thought the movie was great. Now here's the tough part. My 9 year old wanted to see it. I went first because I remember some pretty horrid things happening to Carol and the Mom. The movie version did a good job of toning these scenes down...but..I would have hesitation of recommending this as a "family movie" in spite of what it may appear in previews. It's an excellent period piece and for those their mid-50's (like me!) you will find many memories being stirred. It's "PG-13" and going to be a tough call since there really aren't that many kids movies out at this time. There's really nothing offensive...but I really don't think kids will find this enjoyable. All adults...go see it! Yet another fine Stephen King interpretation (like the Green Mile).
Just Visiting (2001)
Monty Python & Pink Panther fans will enjoy!
Took my 8 year old to see this fully expecting another "kid" movie. Not so! I think adults will enjoy this as well. The leading actors were superb, the humor right on and there was even a bit of romance to boot! I think this is a sleeper and will draw a big following once it hits the rental market. Its a mixture of Monty Python % Pink Panther Oh, my son enjoyed it too!
