Jingle Hell (2000)
Same movie, different title
I have this same movie, but on a DVD copyrighted 1999 under the title "Christmas Present". The DVD "Christmas Present" has similar cover art background, but instead of the family, has a large green Christmas ball with a lit fuse coming out of the top as though it was a bomb about to explode. I can't find any birthday in the bio information for Pete Barker who played Seamus Fitzgerald in this movie. At the start of the movie, his wife says he's 64 (he says he's in his 65th year), but he looks much older. Does anyone know Peter Barker, the actor's birthday?
Syriana (2005)
almost a documentary
Good actors, good acting, OK plot, but the content was completely unexciting and completely expected and predictable after the first 20 minutes or so. What was portrayed would not surprise me if it showed up as news on CNN. Special effects were non-existent. The biggest opportunity for an explosion in the movie was filled by a soundlessly simple white-screen and a fade to next scene. The second biggest explosion in the movie could have been old film footage from any convoy behind hit in either Gulf war - and probably was such footage. I guess there was no budget left for effects after paying the big name actors. If the point of the movie was to show us corruption in government dealings with other countries, well, duh - of course there is. I doubt that any American with their head out of the sand expects our foreign policy is all, or even partly, sweetness and integrity.
If you got a thrill out of Fahrenheit 911, you might enjoy this movie, too. And it wasn't the emir's second son's fault that I kept thinking of Dr Bashir from DS-9 every time I saw the actor. He really was playing his role pretty well.
